its actually a shame that people see a size 16 as "large" i mean, its about average uk size. so if anything size 14 through to 18 is a medium!! stupid size zero attitudes
**sorry, having a rant** x

Susie, I agree. I actually had one potential customer email quite angry about our sizing 'labels' for a similar reason to yourself. Unfortunately it's not us that puts the labels on clothing, we just list them as we get them.
I think it would a very brave manufacturer to change their sizing labeling. It would need to be a shift in the entire industry, probably worldwide.
We deliberately try to avoid stocking "one size" products as they generally don't fit many people well.

I completely agree with both of you there - if a size 16 is supposedly the UK average, why do so many brands make size 16 ladies feel obese!
A couple of clothing stalls on Camden Market a few years ago made me smile as they didn't have 12/14/16 or small/medium/large, instead their sizes were adjectives & the size 16 skirt I bought was "curvy" while the 18 my mum bought was "voluptuous". I thought that was a really lovely touch & left me feeling so good about myself...
...But then to go from "curvy" in one brand to "XL" in another feels like such an insult. If they (not entirely sure who "they" are in this instance!) keep saying how awful these skinny celebs are & that men prefer curvy "real women" etc etc, why do they make these non-skinny, real women feel like overweight rejects when it comes to clothing!
Grrrr. It's always angered me. I'll stop my moaning now, rant over
(And thanks for the PM Richard, you're a star!)

couldn't agree more, as a size 14/16 designer I refuse to label up that sizing as large or even xl so for our company that is a medium.
it does confuse when we wholesale but not changing the policyAges Of Elegance Makers of clothing, lingerie and bridalwear for over 25 years
