Default where can I get really big sheets of quite sturdy cardboard??

I'm trying to make some props for an idea I have and need quite large, over 1 meter squared' bits of cardboard. I cant use bits of box as i dint have boxes big enough.
It also needs to be quite stiff as they are to act like fans

What sort of card do you need? Sometimes if you go into hardware shops like Homebase or something they can sort you out with some packaging that they don't need - it saves them getting rid of it, they don't usually mind anyway

I remember when I was little, Gateway (the supermarket) would stack up boxes for you to take at the end of the checkouts, which is where my cats' first bed was from, lol xx

Also, you could ask in your local cinema for the standees that advertise the films as they only chuck them away. I've done this before and ended up staggering up the street with some massive sheets (it must have looked so funny to other people!!)

Instead of using regular card you might want to have a look for Foam Core Card, this is 2 sheets of thin card with a layer of polystyrene between them, it's stiffer than normal card but still easy to cut with a craft knife, some art shops will sell it but typically only in smaller sizes, you might find one that can get you larger sizes, alternatively it is often used for display boards as its rigid and can take pins easily, so maybe check out yellow pages for sign makers or display stand renters ?

Here's what you need: Cardboard, Cardboard Packaging & Cardboard sheets from Postpack

I've ordered from them before - everything went smoothly.

Beatrix you are a mine of information today. I will hopefully order some business cards once Im back at work and earning.
    That cardboard site has everything.
I also like the idea of the foam core card. That could come in so handy

    Thanks everyone

Foam Core card has a big advantage over corrugated card in that it has uniform properties, corrugated card will fold easily in one direction but resist folding well at right angles to its corrugations, if you are trying to creat something that is likely to be moved through the air I'd probably avoid corrugated card, on the other hand if you just want to make a fixed prop for the stage I'd use it as it's a lot cheaper than foam core, hope that helps

Not sure what you want to make, but I have often found plastozote ( spelling?) to be useful - or camping mat as a cheaper alternative. Once cardboard has bent, you've had it. And you can't get it wet. Foam or foam-based things are more forgiving. Maybe plastozote with some bits of plastic boning/rigilene glued on using evostick?
