Post corset advice for a newbie.

    Hello,

Corsets are all a bit new to me... I've never worn a proper one, but I really want to go out and get one! I've come across plenty I like the looks of, but don't want to spend hundreds on something I don't know I can wear. So I'm thinking to start off with something a little cheaper. I'm also stuck with the dilemma of under-bust or over-bust... I cant decide which would be more wearable.

Any advice on where to start would be appreciated! x

Personally I've always preferred underbusts for being more wearable. You can wear it over any top/shirt, you can still wear a bra comfortably with it & if you are uncomfortable you can take it off as you've got something on under it!

Well one thing to watch out for if you do opt for a cheaper corset is that it may actually be less comfortable than the more expensive steel boned versions. Anytime I've ever worn a bustier/boned top I've found the bones buckle & bend inward from moving/sitting down etc which can be quite painful & irritating, so whatever you do I'd try get something steel boned at least!

    Hope this helps!

Underbusts or waspies are much more wearable everyday because they're much less restrictive. You can try one of my overbusts if you want, I'm nearly done making a new one!

I'd suggest an underbust too. You have more movement, you can dress them up or down and you've a better chance of a good fit off-the-rack, as the bust is the tricky bit to fit.

Avoid anything that looks too straight. You'll end up with discomfort when you try to lace a too straight corset in as you put too much pressure on your ribcage and hips. Avoid most plastic boning, as it bends and stays bent and can poke through and hurt you. Also, too few bones can lead to discomfort.

    Hope that helps some

I have been corset training for about a year and a half now and I own nothing but underbusts and waspies. Those are the hands-down best if you're looking for an everyday corset for tightlacing, should you decide it is for you and want to commit to it. However, I'm planning to invest in an overbust for special occasions, but never for everyday training. Once you get used to the compression (it should feel like a pleasant hugging sensation around your waist), they become very comfortable, believe it or not. So comfortable that whenever I have to be out of corset (i.e. showering, changing, etc.), I feel odd and uncomfortable! Like most everyone in this thread has said, stay away from plastic boning! I also suggest that if you can find a corsetier or lingerie shop in your area that does custom fitting but also has high quality off-the-rack models, maybe they can fit you with one to try on to get a good feel for it?

Thank you everyone for the advice! I think I'll get a underbust for now then maybe i'll be a little happier with splashing out on a fancy overbust one later. and i'll make sure its steel boned! xx

    Hi there Dahlia,

I agree with the others again on the underbust as I actually find them easier and more comfortable to wear, especially when performing ! Vollers are good, but if you're wanting one to try out that still can help you with cinching in your waist, try:

    www.corsets-uk.com

They also do other burly accessories and overbust corsets in a range of different style/colours/patterns.

    Hope that's of use, xxx

I had come across that site. the 3 for 2 is a little tempting but puts me backwards with the budgeting! =]

I quite like the looks of this one... I'm a 'does it come in black?' sorta girl =] also like the sweetheart necklines too. oh indecision!
