I will second the bad review of Cyber -- they are a bunch of jerks in there! I have never received such terrible customer service in my life, nor have I ever encountered a shop owner who so clearly despises her potential customers if it seems they might not have all the money in the world. Basically if they don't think you're going to buy a corset right then and there, they will actually say to you "Well is it even worth our time having you try anything on?" as if it's such a huge deal to try on an off-the-peg corset. ARG! They made me angry.

    End of rant.

Back to the issue at hand: I think if you are considering a power mesh waspie, you might want to take a look at this: Custom-made WaistCincher in Beige Mesh - Tightlacing - Corsetry
The people who run this site are absolutely lovely to deal with, and though I haven't received my first corset from them yet I am pretty confident I will love it! There's also a 10% off coupon code I might as well share: XXVH1211.

Hope you find something that will help! I don't have as serious of back issues as you do, but since I've started waist training (about 10 months ago) my neck and lower back problems have eased up considerably thanks to improved posture.

    xx

Madame Sher's work is lovely. She has some very unusual designs, and if you notice, the busks she uses are rather different. Apparently due to her having to get them specially made as they aren't available in Brazil.

That corset will be rigid mesh though, no stretch. There are some museum examples of late Victorian and Edwardian mesh corsets intended for 'active' wear which are a similar principle. Early wicking sports bras if you like

I've never heard that one either! Cheeky minx! And can anyone tell me where one can do a 7-year apprenticeship?
I loved the look of the mesh waspie - just the kind of thing I was talking about; I assumed it was power mesh, but looking again after Crikey Aphrodite's post, I think she's right. Beautiful beautiful things, though.

It would be wonderful if there was still such things as apprenticeships these days! And some sort of accredited, certified thing is something that's often discussed. It would help customers and stop things like undercutting and lying about imports etc.

Ah well, better go and hide the boning under the floorboards in case the corset police come round! I wonder what carries the stiffer sentence - flats or spirals :/

I imagine solid steels, since mandors sometimes sells spirals it must be shoplifting & solid steels are more armed robbery!

Yeah it would be nice to see some sort of lengthy corset course, the closest I've ever found is costuming degrees, which must be really useful/interesting but it'd be great if there was a whole one dedicated to corsetry!

I have nothing of value to add, other than a huge big chuckle at "corset police" ... that has really tickled me!

I once went into cyber and asked about a fitting only to get told not to bother as apparently since I'm a natural 26" waist I have no fat. Its safe to say I have since went elsewhere.

The store has beautiful corsets but the attitude is horrible unless as others have said you have the money.

That waist cincher looks lovely! Thanks also for the code, I'm sure lots of people would find that useful on here. If this is the first time you ordered from them, what other places would you recommend or did you use before?

I'm glad that you had a positive experience posture-wise, that is what I hoped to achieve. Sometimes I feel completely straightened out, after a good night's sleep on a good bed I feel "straighter" and it is so refreshing.

Do you wear your corsets 23 hours a day, sleep in them etc? I was meant to do that with my corset braces but didn't want to wear them to school because of bullying so I ended up just having them on at night. They were made of fibreglass though so they used to be quite uncomfortable and hard to wear. I should have remembered that you train your waist because you made a thread on it here before.

LillyWiggler, do you think the Prosthetics department would give me advice if I just went to see them? I know they are probably a research dept rather than one that gives consultations to patients etc, but would they be able to advise generally or would they need to see my back and would that need some sort of appointment? Like I said before it isn't an extremely bad case or anything. I study just along the road from the city centre campus so if it's there going to chat to them is easy to do. I don't think I would want to have a surgical corset like before, they do get sweaty! I used to have them made up by an orthotics team at Yorkhill.

When I visited last year, it seemed they were very much a hands on research dept, they do alot of work with patients develop prosthetics & carrying out studies. It might be worth giving them a phone or popping in just to see if there is someone who might be willing to offer some advice or a chat (I imagine they'll recommend speaking to a doctor but they might be able to offer up some insight). I met 2 spinal specialists there & both were able to share some really useful info & reasources! Or they may be able to recommend a series of exercises that will help keep your back/abdominal muscles fit enough to cope with wearing a corset for extended periods!
During my own research I came across numerous fabric medical corsets, so it would seem that something should be more than possible!
