My mister is planning on wearing his suit, with a waistcoat and tie - I imagine he's going to wear his Fedora but I'm not sure yet

Ball
I am going to the burlesque ball in perth and my very loving partner is going gangster (Al Capone style) just a suit with a plain white scarf would be good as that it dressed up without going over ball.
Very very lucky lady I am. He would be a lot to lose if I ever did.
Black suit white scarf the sits over the jacket, something like this.

If it's just a burlesque night (as opposed to a ball) I think anything goes really. Nights I have been to have had a huge range - from smart/casual shirts and jeans, through to Steampunk/Edwardian/Victorian, rockabilly/retro and even circus/ringmaster styles. I would say that it should be whatever he feels comfy in, though all the better if it matches your outfit

How do!
Thank you and thank you for all the excellent suggestions that have been coming through. I was stuck .....do we go for jeans/T shirt or something a bit more dapper? Such a range of ideas which all help. This now leads into which event to go to. I am thinking perhaps something at London Burlesque week?

I would always go more dapper - half the fun of a burlesque night is the chance to dress up properly

most males tend to go formally dressed
black tie, top hat and tails, bow tie and cummerbund

My nine year old (slightly eccentric) son, says he loves your husbands dress sense.
He said if he were to accompany me, he would wear a nice shirt, top button undone, his favorite tie, waistcoat, navy blue suit, two tone shoes oh and of course his trilby, not his flat cap.Miss Pussy Cat

I think you are probably getting the idea! Generally you can go as 'dressed up' or not as you like!
So, whether he wants to go for a smart top hat and tails look, or a military style outfit it will work, that said my husband and i went to a show last night and he didn't dress up at all - just went for smart jeans, and a shirt. It really depends on his mood and the event.
Have fun!
