Unhappy I really need help with Corsets!!! PLEASE

Okay I have a new figure (those of you who have read any of my posts know why so I wont parrot myself), my measurements are now 39-28-39 okay minor fluctuations as I suffer from bloating which sometimes means I can flutaute by 1/2" to 1" but thankfully not too often.

I just got my three corsets from Corsets UK, they are full steel boning and tightlacing and are a 26 measurement. I have to here say a great thank you to them because they were wonderful and incredibly helpful! I know they arent the most expensive or best you can buy but the quality is actually very good and I was nicely suprised, being as I havent tried a corset with my new figure and shape I didnt want to go nuts and pay a huge amount only to find the cut was wrong for me etc.

Now I have a huge problem, firstly I always prefer to have and use a modesty panel, so obviously the corset needs to fit me within the bounds of the modesty panel, well trying on the corsets with my hubby lacing me in we both got incredibly frustrated, the corsets lace up fine at the bust with 1"-2" modesty panel showing through so long as I am going for that busts and cleavage looking almost indecent look! but they dont go round my hips without having a gap in the modesty panel, now even if I scrap using the modesty panel thats not the end of the problem. The corsets are not pulling in my waist, the boning just sits flush against my waist, in fact some of the bones dont even touch me, but if we try tightening the lacing round the waist firstly it the pulls on the rest of the lacing tightening it round the bust and hips and trust me there is no more they can give we are down to bone and pain if we lace tighter in those areas, secondly the boning would quite literally have to bend into an arc at my waist and thats just not happening....it feels like my bones will give beofre the steel!

Are we doing something wrong? My hubby thinks that because I already have a defined 11" difference in my waist that I need to have corsetry that is actually designed and pre shaped at the waist as most corsets are designed for the modern rectangle shape and dont expect to have to deal with an alreadly defined waist, though he admits that maybe he is lacing it wrong but we did spend hours yesterday playing with different ways of lacing and watching Youtube tutorials. Basically I wanted to really define my hourglass figure and pull my waist in by a couple of inches but when I now measure over the corsets my waist is bigger than it was before! Arrrggghhhh I am pulling my hair out!

I know that alot of you wonderful people on here are really experienced with corsets, and there are I know some wonderful corsetiers on here, please help? I dont mind paying more for one perfect corset that does what I want, but I need to know what is wrong with me and corsets.....any ideas please (begs on knees with big blue watery pleading eyes!)

There is nothing at all wrong with you and corsets. But there is something wrong with the corsets. From the sounds of it, your husband is spot on.

You have a true hourglass shape. Very few off-the-rack corsets will do that justice. What Katie Did is the only one that springs to mind. You would probably be best going custom. Of course the voices from the gallery will be saying, 'she would say that, wouldn't she'

Many off-the-rack corsets, especially the cheaper mass-produced ones are cut very straight. It sounds like this is the case here. It's either big enough on the bust or simply getting enough squish there to lace in, but of course your hip bones aren't going to go anywhere. Your hip-bones are preventing it coming in to your waist as there isn't enough curve on the corset to allow it to follow your shape. Basically you have far more of an hourglass than the corset does!

Ideally a well-fitted corset should measure close to your actual ribcage and hip measurements so there is minimal reduction there. All the reduction should be at your waist, both for comfort and maximum effect. Out of interest, if you have a tape measure handy, measure around the hips of the actual corset. I'm guessing you'll find it's miles out.

I hope that explains things better. That's such a shame though. Will you be able to return them?

As said above, your husband is probably right, but you can get lucky with some off-the-rack corsets. My measurements are almost identical to yours(37-28-39 last I checked), and I have 2 off-the-rack 24" corsets from Fairy Goth Mother, and they both work very well (and lace all the way up the back comfortably with the modestly panel covering the gap)! I'd suggest going to the FGM or WKD shops and asking for some assistance in there, and if you don't find anything suitable, try something custom. I haven't yet been able to afford a custom corset, but can't wait for when I can!

It is really best to get one custom made or that has a significant difference in the waist measurement. Fairy Gothmother are really good and can give you advice as well, but I'd say the most important thing is to try them on before you buy. Also remember corsets distort your shape - your bust will be bigger so you may need to get one with a bust a couple of inches bigger than your actual measurements. xx

I'd be delighted. Give me a shout when you're ready to order and we can talk over the procedure and what you'd like

i agree than you definitely want to go for a corset cut for curves, something very hard to find if you dont invest the money.
i think you would have no problem in a corset like in my avatar picture and should comfortably achieve a 3-4" reduction.
