This is a refreshing change to many performers I could mention (but won't) who have tried out for us, not made the grade and then spent the rest of their time telling everybody that we obviously have some sort of personal vendetta against them or how they are 'doing everything in their power to disassociate themselves from MoB' etc...
Daiquiri is a great example of somebody who has put in the hours, improved at a steady pace and doesn't think that the world owes her a living. If more new performers took a leaf out of Daiquiri's book, there would be a hell of a lot more great performers on the circuit!

Thankyou James, this means a lot to me. I love the contemporary British burlesque scene, but peoples' lack of understanding of what constitutes a good performance and decent etiquette / conduct, plus the bitching that can go on saddens me. The world of burlesque is fascinating; historically, socially and culturally and many people miss this, seeing simply the glamorous facade and chnace to grab some limelight.
Since first discovering burlesque through my good friend Missy over 3 years ago, I have come a long way! After watching that first show, I was hooked, and continued to go to burlesque events over the next few months. When I got the opportunity to write an article on the new burlesque scene late in 2005, I jumped at the chance. The research I did for that article peaked my interest further, and I decided I wanted to have a go at performing.
When I joined the MoB forums in early 2006, the Battle of Burlesque gave me the chance to make my burlesque debut in a safe, welcoming environment and get some advice from those who had been in the business for a while. After that, I joined Gypsy Charms' classes and worked hard to develop my persona and act.
In 2007 I was delighted to make it to the final of the MoB Awards, alongside my fellow finalists, Trixie Sparkle & Lord Dashwood, and of course the amazingly-talented winner of the Best Newcomer Award, Beatrix Von Bourbon.
Meanwhile, on the education side of things, I was lucky in that I was doing a degree in Theatre, Film & Television, so was able to bring that round to the subject of burlesque! In my 3rd year, I did a costume design project in Theatre for a burlesque event, in Film & TV, I designed a website about Burlesque Films in the 1940s - 1950s and in my final year of Theatre, I wrote my dissertation on New Burlesque within the UK. I was also asked to write another article for my uni magazine 'qmunicate' at the beginning of this year, which focussed on the burlesque classes run by Gypsy, Viva and MoB.
I am so excited to be going to the Bizarre Ball; it's been a lot of hard work, time, money (and some tears!) But I love performing and making things, and I hope to continue to do so for aome time to come!
Thanks again to everyone for their lovely comments!
