I agree! It's fantastic that you are so open minded! Of course with children you never know. I had a friend at school who was obsessed with princesses, pink and ballet. He got into the Royal Ballet School (is that the name?) and is now a dancer on a cruise ship (he is also 98% profoundly deaf, and feels the vibrations in his feet to pick up the rhythms) but he is straight.

When I worked in a nursery, there was a 3 year old boy who loved pink and girly things. He liked his hair in bunches, he had rings and necklaces on, would dress up in dresses in the dressing up corner and had a pink raincoat. His mum was absolutely fine with it and just let him do what he liked and own what he liked- if it was pink and glittery then so be it. When I left, I bought all the children party bags: seperate ones for the boys and girls. I gave him a girly one and he was absolutely over the moon!

I saw him the other day in town and should really have said hello. Neither he or his mum recognised me. I really regret that I didn't say something but it made my day

I'd love to get involved in this in some way. But there's not really much around here that I know of that isn't pretty modern ...

I've just been chatting to a friend and they suggested the Pomegranate Theatre or the even the Buxton Opera House though that may be a bit large and mainstream?

This sounds like a great idea, there are lots of unused venues up here in Scotland (though not so many in Edinburgh, that I know of). If anyone is keen to spearhead consider me one of the troupes!

I agree about the Scotland bit. You have another pair of hands here if you need them.

most around here is not needed but who knows what it will be like when I move. However, this is a great idea.

we had a couple of beautiful old buildings in our area that would have been fantastic venues for a burlesque night - but they they ummed and ahhed at one and then pulled it down and the miserable buggers at the other one 'didn't want that sort of thing' at their venue - we had to find an alternative, much more modern, and alas, less atmospheric venue...boo!
you can't help some people!

It's probably an idea to start with the simplist format - the revue show - one host and his/her guest acts. It is far less complicated to run this sort of show than a musical or anything with a narrative. This way you can also have a wider reach and cater for more age groups and interests, tailoring it according to your local needs and what you all want to achieve. Variety would also allow for more people to become involved too. But it really comes down to the local factors.

There is of course no harm in also proposing other styles of show or a themed cabaret or a whacky panto or whatever you like too. If all goes well, you could end up programming lots of things! Do keep in mind though that this is a labour of love and not a route to fincancial gain. Being thrifty is a great gift and a wonderful parameter for creativity too. These sorts of skills and the experience gained are priceless.

Campaign captains will need to write a proposal for the venue based on the ideas gathered from their team and the resources they have to hand and we'll help you with this too.

So, do drop me a PM with your details and post your chatter, suggestions, thoughts here...
