Take heart, my hubby runs his own company, now that it's limited, as in: Ltd.
there has, by law, to be two directors, so I am company secretary. I don't get involved, but I do know the basics. You really should get yourself a very good accountant. Someone 'to do' the books, ain't good enough. An accountant will set you back £500 per year. But, they will save you enough tax to pay their own invoice. A good accountant will show you how to set your books up, what you can claim for, how to file all your trivial, but oh so necessary details, and retrieve them when needed. And take care of your tax return.
Do it sooner rather than later, even if you are penniless. Accountants only charge you after they have done their work, the Inland Revenue, on the other hand, want payment in advance. So if this is your first year, they will charge you tax on any profit/wage that you have made, and then work out what they expect you to earn next year, and demand payment NOW! Well half in January, half in July.
So there you go, I can do I nice taxman hex for, shall we say a couple of hundred?
