As you may or may not know I have a pair of ostrich.com plastic stave feather fans. Now, someone else put these together for me but they've been made a little bit....well....wrong! They only open 3/4 of the way at a stretch and the feathers need moving down but thats all fixable, what I wanted to know is do the staves have to be tied 'together' with the plasticy wire stuff or would I be able to use ribbon? I just wanted to know as it would solve a problem and maybe make them look prettier too! Any advice gratefully recieved

Use whatever you want that can fit through the holes. As long as they're tied it doesn't matter what with.

Oh, and make sure you're opening them in the right direction! If they'll only open a small way, try opening them the other way to see if that makes any difference. It's a very simple mistake that has been made many a time before ...
