They usually attach with a collar that you fasten round your neck. The wings are sewn on to that and hang down your back. They have plastic or bamboo rods in the ends of the edges that you hold to manipulate the wings. If you drop the rods, they weigh down the wings, so they stay down your back. If you want to pick them back up again, you have to sort of feel for the rods and grab them again. An easy way to do this is to run your fingers down the edge of the wings from the collar, because the rods can move and the wings get tangled up. It isn't very smooth though, so it can look a bit awkward and clunky. One method I'm considering to stop this is to attach ribbons further down the wings and tie them around my wrists, so the rods are right there where I need them to be when I drop them. Maybe if you're handy with a needle that might help?
