I hope this doesnt sound patronising ....

If you're based in Aberdeen, I presume you've tried all the Scottish burlesque promoters?

And if you're willing to travel have you tried any of the English or Welsh burlesque promoters?

I suppose it's a bit of a catch 22 situation if you're pretty new to the scene - promoters like to know where you've performed before and we all talk to each other, so most of us know who's good, who's nice, who's got potential etc.

Having some good pictures, some good press blurb, maybe a good youtube clip etc all helps.

If you're still not getting anywhere you could always think about setting up your own night?

But im sure I havent told you anything new with all that ...

Good luck tho !

Hi honey. I'm starting out and like Warren said, I'm in a bit of a catch 22 as well.

But rumour is your friend I take it you have a myspace page? Link to people in the scene - and the performing art scene. It has been known for people to send out bulletins about looking for performers. Get to know other people in the area who are into the scene (I got booked for next month and passed on info to another newbie who got booked as well).
Through Myspace I may have another couple of bookings coming up as well.
Various nights have new performers so it's worth contacting organisers and if they can't give you show time it might worth asking if they run auditions (that way at least you get feedback).
Also if all else fails you could organise your own night Make it for charity and don't put yourself at the top of the bill.

Also, are you offering something different than what's already out there?
What sets you apart from all other acts that could be hired for an event?
Are you targetting the right events for your act?
I think the performers that get the gigs are the ones that not only give an excellent performance, but have a built up a bit of a reputation for themselves- and that takes time! a lickle bit of patience! :-)

At any events, find out who organised it (ask ticket people/bar staff who ever) and go and congratulate them. Then find them via Myspace and let them know you're looking for stage time or ask if they would let you maid at an event.
Most events have a myspace/facebook page so you can message and ask how you could get involved.
Keep an eye on the castings page on here as well

Hi

We organise the show at Club Sapphire in Aberdeen, where we taught you, so I would be happy to have a look at your act next time I'm up - drop me a PM and we can organise it!

Best thing is to go to the classes Viva runs - that's where you'll meet people and hear about things! There's that cellar 35 thing I messaged you about - I don't know much about it but they're in the yellow pages so just call and ask! I just apply to things that come up in the "castings" section of this website. Some of them reply and some of them don't. Lots of travelling, I'm afraid, cause there's not many gigs up here!
You're probably ok now you're in touch with the lovely Viva
Good luck
xx
