Candy Box and World Famous *BOB* in today's Metro
A small little section with a photo of *BOB* can be found in on page 27 of todays Metro (think it might only be in the Midland edition)
The article however has taken a rather negative tone towards Burlesque, the american striptease style at least.
I quote:
"...the whole burlesque scene, which is suposed to be all about teasing glimpses, is now so overexposed it has all the erotic mystique of someone mooning."
Charming.
Nice to see the Candy Box is getting in the papers though

the metro is normally staffed by bored graduates so i wouldn't worry too much about their opinions of burlesque About twenty of my graduating class populate the stafflists nationwide!
however, what a shitty way to turn an article!
i truly wish I were going on Sunday have a great time!

Well they've obviously never been to the Candy Box.
Burlesque needs clubs like the Candy Box to remind everyone of how good it can be. I'll be there on Sunday enjoying another great night! Can't wait!

Ha ha, I've just seen it, This is the reason we have never courted the press - Its run by squares!
Here is the Article in full:
"Anyone who believes the new burlesque revolution is actually just stripping for those too embarrassed to go to a lapdancing club will find plenty of ammunition for their argument in The World Famous *BOB*'s act. In the past the New York cabaret artist has mixed Martinis with her cleavage, and her website proudly boasts of her 42F bust alongside puns about her Big Top that would shame a lads' mag subeditor.
But the whole burlesque scene, which is supposed to be all about teasing glimpses, is now so over-exposed it has all the erotic mystique of someone mooning. Cannily, The World Famous *BOB* has used it as a springboard into other art forms, having been photographed by the likes of Mario Testino and David LaChapelle, as well as appearing in The New York Times, dabbling in performance art and MCing, modelling for Thierry Mugler and playing a cameo role in John Cameron Mitchell's film, Shortbus.
Support act Imelda May will be blasting out her foot-stomping retro-rockabilly tunes, and there will also be music from Candybox's in-house band, Palookaville Orchestra. They recently won a Ministry Of Burlesque award for their 'spit and drool' music - the organ-powered garage-rock they'll be pumping out as the resident dance troupe, Candied Heels, strut their stuff.
Sun Aug 31, Glee Club, Hurst Street, Birmingham. 7.30pm, £18, sold out, returns only. Tel: 0871 472 0400. www.candyboxburlesque.com"

What a poor article. It makes the Candy Box look like The World Famous BOB show with some band and a bunch of dancers - no need to mention Red Sarah, Foxy Rouge, Anna Fur Laxis or Bearlesque.
The Cherry Pop Peep Show article was better, but how the Metro went from that article to the abortion that represented The Candy Box I'll never know - Al and Violet must have pulled the short straw for competent journalists.
Funnily enough, Angel and I tried to get an article in the Metro over our show - I think we lucked out when nothing happened.

It's just lazy journalism - they've looked to see who tops the bill and checked out BoB's website and haven't even bothered to mention the other acts which are just as stunning. I can't believe how good the line up is!
Either that or they're annoyed it's a sell-out and they couldn't get a ticket - don't you know who they are Al?? They are 'journalists' and could make or break anyone's career with a flick of their pen...........YEAH THO!

Hey , we cant let something like this get us down can we?
We at Candy central are quite happy, We have 100% sellout record, which is why I like it just the way it is - We will go headline hunting when our figures slip.
We have never pretended to be anything other than a very old-school Cheeky striptease show, and anyone with an ounce of Burlesque knowledge can see that, some people get it-some don't.
We cant wait til Sunday! We have a great show with some great performers - YEEPS!
I've never looked forward to introducing anyone as much as World famous *BOB* She IS what the Candy Box Burlesque club is about, loosen up, sit back and Martinis all round.

She is indeed absolutely perfect for The Candy Box. I can't wait to see her again, she's like a big doll and being with BOB is like meeting a real old school blonde bombshell. She uses ditzy humour to sugar a very big brain and she's as funny as she is gorgeous. She'll be right at home and a real treat for the crowd.
