Ah! I read that this morning on the bus - the 'reasonably priced' Metro strikes again.

I had an issue a couple of years ago over the way one of their oh-so-well-informed people wrote up a certain major biker event (In advance, without knowing anything about what they're talking about, about which I complained).

This was until an acquaintance (and career journo) really pointed out the general standard of writing for the freebies, and that 1) the writers are only attempting to use it as a career springboard, so are obliged to try and say something clever about it for the purposes of their portfolio; and 2) most right-minded people take the freebies with a pinch of salt; esp others in the profession.

I'm sorry if anyone here write for the freebies and finds that a tad insulting, but it wasn't my opinion and certainly made me feel better!

It was an utterly pants article, but just give it the contempt it really deserves.

I love the freebies! They are all rubbish but great nonetheless. Especially when you can laugh about a poorly written article.

You see, had I actually been any good I could've used my Journalism degree, got a job at Metro and ensured only glowing reviews and previews for Candy Box! I've let the family down, I know... hehe

My favourite game when reading Metro is to play "spot the typo". It's full of 'em! One of my highlights was also the small feature which was slightly mocking of Keith Richards. However it was a general mocking of him being an old rock star as whoever wrote didn't seem to notice that it had quoted him as saying he had "only two pairs of hands..."

But anyway... CB is sold out so it's hardly going to make a blind bit of difference on the night - everyone's bought their tickets because they know it's going to be a totally rock'n'roll show as it always is! I'm really looking forward to seeing *BOB*, HoneyLulu and Bearlesque for the first time. And Kitten on the Keys was telling me great things about Anna Fur Laxis the other day! PLUS Candy favourites RedSarah and Foxy Rouge (who I also saw the other day and she's looking forward to it too!) make a welcome return - what a hoot! I shall be wearing my "official photographer" badge with pride!!

He hides that extra pair pretty well!

I want a refund, it sounds rubbish!! Seriously though, what a load of tripe, come to the Candy Box and then review it Mr or Mrs Metro. If they could see the amount of hard work that Al and Saffron put into it, the top rate acts at EVERY show and how much the audience enjoy themselves, they'd soon be eating their words. The Candy Box has nothing to prove

oh dear oh dear. So many things wrong not enough time to sit here and point them all out.

In all honesty though the Candy Box is well known far and wide and really, gutter press by the uneducated will do you no harm.

If you suddenly announced that Palookaville have been fired and Imelda has left the Candy Box never to darken your door again, then yes there would be fall out and a stream of complaints direct to your door.

I will be in attendance on Sunday night come hell or high water.

Amusing side bar actually, we went to a few independant music shops in Birmingham yesterday and left flyers for our September show with them. In the very first shop we struck up a conversation with a lady advertising for band members as she is presently a singer with no band. We asked her about the kind of music she plays as we are always interested in bringing in different singers/musicians to the show to mix it up a bit. We explained who we are and what we do which elected the reply "so what, your looking for punk for pervs?"
