Now then, wasn't there a chap on the radio years ago who opened up the show by saying "Hello ladles and jelly spoons, I now stand upon a speach to make a platform!"?
I hope you find accomodation to your taste soon my dear, stiff upper lip and all that stuff eh?
Michelle.

My head is telling me it was Arthur Askey, but it probably wasn't - it was a poem wasn't it and was actually Ladles and Jelly Spoons, I come before you and stand behind you and tell about something of which I know nothing about....and it continued with more jibberish...come to think of it, I wonder if it was a Spike Milligan kid's poem. might have to look that up on the big www

Just looked it up and yep, looks like Spike Milligan did, though apparantly nobody is entirely sure.
Ladles and Jellyspoons,
I come before you,
to stand behind you,
To tell you something
I know nothing about.
Next Thursday,
which is Good Friday,
There will be a mothers' meeting
for fathers only.
Wear your best clothes
if you haven't any,
and if you can come,
please stay at home.
Admission is free, pay at the door,
Pull up a seat and sit on the floor.
We will be discussing the four corners
of the round table.
It makes no difference
where you sit
The man in the gallery's
sure to spit.

You beat me to it - I got sidetracked by reading some his other poems again. I love Spike Milligan, he was the true definition of a genius....admittedly a bit of a ******* to those who loved him because of his bi-polar, but total genius

Yeah, it is a poem tempest but, it was used on the radio by someone of Aurthers ilk when I was a wee boy so thats around 1960 to 65 ish.
You all can also have.
One bright morning in the middle of the night
Two white darkies got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Pulled out their swords and shot each other.
A blind man saw them, a deaf man heard them
A man with no legs ran round the corner to fetch the ambulance which came screeching round the corner on no wheels and half killed a dead cat.
And I have no idea where I heard this or when but it was yonks ago in Scotland.
Michelle.

Hi Cherry, just wanted to add my support to the others.
I'm in a state of flux as well at the moment and I completely understand how stressful and worrying it is not to have anywhere to call home. I'm currently quoting "I am a strong women, I can get through this" to myself every morning, and dreaming of when this period becomes an amusing anecdote to tell my jaded grandchildren...
I really hope your situation improves soon . In the meantime, make sure you treat yourself as nicely as possible whenever you can! I'm finding it is definitely less difficult when you're able to smile about something
