Hello - I'm a newbie to the MoB forum and sincerely hope that I don't upset The Powers That Be by posting here, but I'm looking for your help with an article that I've just decided to write about Burlesque (yep - I'm *that* impulsive!).

I've sent off my cheque to the Club Noir people for their September workshop *gulp* and plan to write about the experience. I fully expect that it will be fun and the aim of the article is to show that burlesque is fun, empowering and sexy - and that it is available to ALL women - ALL shapes and sizes.

What I would like from you lovely ladies (and gents) is suggestions on how women could incorporate elements of the burlesque into their everyday lives and thus feel fun, sexy and empowered EVERY DAY! By way of example, in Dita Von Teese's book, she suggests 'an alarming shade of red lipstick'. That's a small thing and easy to incorporate into everyday life, yes?

I plan to use these 'tips' in a sidebar and the contributor's name would be included with his/her tip. It's unlikely that I would be able to put links through to your sites. Ideally, I'm looking for 20 good ideas, but if more turn up, I'd be delighted :-)

Don't worry, the powers that be are lovely and certainly won't rip your head off

I wear red lipstick every day and pin my hair into victory rolls. It is a bit time-consuming at first but it has taken me a very short time to get the hang of it (maybe a week) and now I can do them in 2 minutes.

I also like to wear vintage-inspired pieces (and the odd real vintage piece) every day but this can be expensive and time-consuming to build up a wardrobe. However, items like pencil skirts are found in many girl's wardrobes and can be a cute little wardrobe staple. They are very versatile aswell.

Seamed stockings are great and an easy way to bring burlesque style into everyday life.

Other accesories such as a waspie belt or bandana can work, and again it is very simple and cheap to do this.

Wear sexy underwear - even if you're stuck in a grotty uniform all day at work, knowing you have something gorgeous and glamorous underneath makes you feel like a goddess.

Treat people with courtesy and consideration - this makes you feel happier and will encourage people to respond (although not always - grrr) in the same way, which makes you feel like a lady.

And yes, I try and wear my hair vintage most days (unless, like this morning when I woke up 30mins before I was actually supposed to be in work!!) and wear either vintage-y eyes make-up or red lipstick (or a red glaze/gloss if I'm not feeling so brave)

But trust me on the underwear...

Of course Rufus is the master of this. Note even his current mood which, in light of his philanthropic ferrying of various burlesque performers (myself included) from show to show says "Rufus: is actually a caravan" rather than the ever so slightly less classy "Rufus: always good for a ride". It's the little touches that make the difference.

I used to wear my big demonia shoes around the house and called them my house shoes because i cant walk in them outside I trip over everything.

Regarding everyday life- wear beautiful underwear, go out in vintage hats even if its only to the pub, dance as you get dressed or do the housework to burlesque inspired music. And have a kind of burlesque/satirical look on your day- look on life in a more tongue in cheek way.
