new to burlesque
hi,
im 17 and at the moment im just learning about burlesque, but when i turn 18 in november, i want to get involved with burlesque and hopefully attend some lessons near to where i live (leeds, uk).
i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what i need to do and how to get started. ive noticed that a lot of people have portfolios, would you reccommend i get one, and does anyone know of a good place nearby where i can have one done and how much it would cost?
can anyone reccomend somewhere where i can take up burlesque classes, close to where i live and how much would that be?
sorry for all the questions i hope someone can help.
thankyou xx

As mentioned in my email. You can find my recommendations for how to get into burlesque here:
Myspace.com Blogs - FAQ - How do I get into Burlesque? - Beatrix Von Bourbon MySpace Blog
It's also worth bearing in mind that you won't be able to perform any striptease aspects (publicly) within your burlesques until you are 18. While aged 17, I imagine there'd be no problem in performing satirical, comedic, music-hall inspired burlesques without any striptease, though some venues may require you to be over 18 in order to be on the premises.

Come to the Slippery Belle burlesque show at Subculture in Leeds on Sat 6 Sept for starters !!
Start thinking up ideas for routines, getting the costume and music together.
And get any stage experience you can, whatever it is you may be doing.
It all goes to increasing your confidence levels in front of people.

Hi there, when you are ready to do classes Bella Besame holds regular weekly ones at The Subculture Leeds (the same place where The Slippery Belle runs every month) They are lots of fun and Bella is a fab teacher.
If you contact Cecilia Rouge through here she will give you more details or if you are on facebook there is a group 'I want to do a burlesque class in Leeds please' you can join - have fun xxx
