(yes, I've worked for various charities who had no money spare from doing their valuable work to get themselves much needed publicity)
Your beef should be with the various charities' management and boards - not the person who needed a job so much that they've had to go for one that is known to be one of the most hated in the country - give them a break. The reason they are coming up to approach you is because they have a quota each day to hit - that's not their fault - don't shoot the messenger.
You can very easily be polite and say no thank you, or even give the poor things a smile and say you already give a lot to charity (which I'm sure most of us do) so can't afford anything more but wish them luck. It's a really horrible job and they get so much abuse - have a heart, they're not child murderers.....I hope.

I know they are doing a job, and I understand that. I am always polite to them aswell (I just lie as little). I guess it's just easy to take it out on them.
The way I see it they either don't really care about the charity- surely otherwise they would object to the money being donated used on their wages? Maybe I'm wrong and being a bit judgemental but that's how I see it.

This has gone very off-topic, but I worked for a charity, albeit only for 1-2 months, in fundraising. Not on the streets, but organising their fundraising events. As part of that we had to ring companies to drum up people willing to take part and we were on occasion given abuse about how we were paid and taking money from the charity. The facts were that charities make much more money from paying someone, what is in effect a minimal wage, than if they relied on volunteers.
I'm only human though and still get annoyed by the street teams. If they took a polite no I'd have no problem, but they don't. I can't stand save the children shouting 'do i not care about kids?' when I'm walking down the road with my 2 & 5 year olds! We do regularly give to a charity each month, of our own choosing
Back on topic, I'm not sure how this thread got as bad as it did. Well I do I suppose. Katsomaya, I know its very hard to take when you think you have a good idea and it turns out not to be. But, you just have to take it on the chin and have a rethink. We may seem like some big entity of the mob, but we're all from very different performing/events backgrounds and just giving our personal opinions. And that opinion is that this format won't work. If you give a more open non-defensive response you would get some very supportive answers
I've performed for free for charity on more than one occasion, often not even taking travel expenses when I can afford it. But, I would never pay out to perform. Not even for good publicity. I regularly work on a kent radio station's roadshows, with a lot of publicity coverage as they also run the local papers, these are sometimes for charity, and I still paid a fair chunk of expenses
Just take a deep breath, realise we're not here to attack you, think about what you really want to get out of this and start again. You need to find a charity you're all devoted to or you'll never find the enthusiasm to really get others to come on board and help. If the charity side of things wasn't big draw, it was putting on an event, then go back to the drawing board and put on an event for an events sake, there's nothing wrong in that

Ok, ok, I may be a cynical old geek, but having wandered through various forums, irc channels, email groups and newsgroups over the last 12 years or so - does it make me a bad man that my initial reaction to this thread when December pointed it out to me was along the lines of "Classic Nigerian 419 scam with a twist of targetting a specific group of people"?
It's almost tempting to try a scambait on them and see where it goes...

What about sending in that scambuster guy who gets the Nigerian scammers to get tattoos of stuff like "Pillock" on themselves... makes me laugh every time.
Oh no - I could get sued for libel...
Bring it on.
Yes, I agree with the comment of what seemed like a good idea ending up as a PR disaster for Katsomaya and co. Unfortunately the continued aggresive posts threatening legal action suggest that SJK Promotions is in danger of being looked upon as, at the very least, an unprofessional and clueless group. The worse part for SJK is that although foum threads eventually disappear, I know that performers in the scene continue to talk privately.
Finally, I don't feel that this thread has been an attack by the MoB or it's forum users - if Kaysomaya went to any other Burlesque forum I suspect the response would be the same. Performers may have worked for nothing for charties and small shows (as newbies) but they are still a long way from paying to perform for an untested entity.

i love those 419 scambaiters...
ooh i've just seen SJK are based in the North, wow I'd love to hear more about the group and what events you are planning. Always good to see more burlesque up here and I'd also like to see which performers you are using.
I see you have an event listed in August. Is Goldie Lucious a typo of our beautiful Golden Delicious?? I hope its Golden as I'd really like to see her up North. If not, oh dear the name is very very similar....
I really hope a charity event does come of this which is beneficial to the charity, promoters and the performers. No one does this job to be bent out of shape by others and I've performed for free for several charities I'm close to. But only for benefit of the charity and my own publicity. Normally the promoter fronts the entire cost and I've known ALOT of promoters to end up with no earnings, having had to pay the performers first.
If it does work, then the promoter gets a massive feather in their cap and the performers a nice glowy feeling. It that isn't the case, what is the point?
