A bit confused!!!
Hmm, as am I. I'm going to need to double check all this but I'm fairly certain it shouldn't affect you; it does depend on the size of your premises and the nature and extent to which the music is used. Plus to pay PRS you need to detail all the songs played which is ludicrous if you are just listening to the radio in work. You can visit Mechanical Copyright Protection Society Home for more details that might help. The idea that your work as told you you can't listen to your radio because of PRS is making my brain hurt

This is another tricky one. While you wouldn't be selling your show reel and making money directly from it, you would be using your show reel to promote yourself and generate (paid) bookings. It might be worth stressing this to the band in writing and to see what they come back with.

I couldn't get hold of the appropriate license to use the commercial track I'd hoped to use for my online show reel. As a result I messaged friend in a band and negotiated terms to use one of his tracks. I think offering to credit the band at the beginning rather than the end of the show reel helped sway the deal

What about sheet music played out on a piano? I've had a look at the MCPS-PRS website that many acronyms in any one place...

Well frankly it'd confuse anyone.

Basically, I'm looking to expand my act with the use of a pianist singing live covers of showtunes.

What would I have to do in order to obtain the rights to perform this?

HELP!

I'd suggest that if you can't find the answer on the MCPS website, give them a ring! I've spoken to their team members on the phone many-a-time and they're always really helpful and able to give a straight answer immediately. x
