Unhappy Friends Wanted - not just the cyber variety!

Grr - I'm all grumpy and cross and disappointed and sad this morning because for the second time my friends promised to come to a local burlesque night with me and then pulled out at the last minute leaving me unable to make alternative arrangements. I'm itching to see some of the local shows but don't want to sit all night by myself with no-one to talk to and wondered if there were any other northern birds in the same boat? If anyone out there is a tad more reliable and up for going to see some North East shows then please get in touch. Maybe we can create an exclusive 'friends with vanilla mates who go and see burly shows together' group?

On the other hand are there any other brave souls who go to see shows by themselves without knowing anyone at all? If so then what is the atmosphere like and is it the kind of environment where you can just meet some friendly people and get chatting without looking like some sort of desperate freak?

There's lots of friendly people at NE burlesque shows - if you're at any of the shows im at I'll introduce you to a few people.

Altho last night I went alone to Bordello Bordello (which was excellent), and I did feel like a bit of a plum as I didnt actually know anyone - apart from a couple of the performers ...

I know what you mean, it is difficult when friends don't share your interests. I go to see comedians on my own quite a lot. It's odd because I wouldn't think twice about going to the cinema and things with friends, that's a shared interest but trying to get them to come to comedy is a real effort unless it's some mainstream act that they have seen on tv none of my friends have interests in things like burlesque or comedy though

It's OK in the theatre and cinema because it's dark and no-one is looking at you - they're mainly looking straight ahead, eating popcorn or canoodling. When you're in a bar or when there's cabaret seating then people are expecting you to be sociable so a lone person sticks out like a sore thumb. I know what you mean though - I go to things that my mates like without a second thought but the gesture is not often reciprocated. Perhaps we're just more cultured or too nice for our own good? x

Hey honey I just read your email. Thats rubbish your friend bailed on you at the last minute, never mind though, I'm sure you'll make it to the next one, (well, hopefully you'll be in the next one!) I'm up for joining your group of burlesquers, I'm sure the girls will be up for it too. Let's keep eachother updated with stuff that's on and try and rendevous at some point.

Ooh I'm forever having friends pull out last minute (though I can't complain too much to them as I once had to stand them up because I was a drunken fool - shame on me!)

However, I too am in the NE (woo hoo - come on Whitley Bay!) so why the devil don't we meet up and go together? I'm gutted that I couldn't go to Bordello Bordello last night, though I am suffering from the end of the month money drought!

Anyway, I'll join the Northern Mobers and when a specific night is coming up we could always give each other a shout
