Thumbs down Pussycat Dolls: Burlesque Act or Sham?

There have been some comments, even grumblings of whether The Pussycat Dolls of the US are a legit burlesque act.

Not overly keen on them myself. As far as i know olnly one of them has any singing ability and i wouldn't recodnise the rest of the group.

At least the glamazons can all sing, but i'd still call them a pop groupe.

There a little to grindy without the all american apple pie in your face bump for my taste.

Default Pussycat Girls

They started as a 'burlesque troupe' years and years ago in LAs Viper Room club. However, I don't know how 'burlesque' they were. Dita and Carmen Electra along with a host of others made guest appearances but I guess that isn't much help either....

The band is nearly completely separate. I think only one of the original girls was kept on for the band, with the rest being found through open auditions - very much a manufactured band (as if you hadn't guessed!) so their links to the original 'burlesque troupe' are weak at best.

Isn't this exact same thread already being discussed slightly down the page? - The two threads should probably be merged.

As far as i'm concerned, they're no more burlesque performers than when Kylie bought a showgirl outfit or when Robbie had poledancing cheerleaders (great video!)

Yes there is another post regarding this same topic. I am going to post a quote from the divine Dita, from her Bizarre Magazine interview:

"I have zero tolerance for copycat acts and sanitised, pretentious pseudo-burlesque."

Here is the entire interview:
