Dontcha wish you were in a burlesque troupe like me? Dontcha!
Surely this lot should really be labelled a "cabaret" troupe, as opposed to a burlesque troupe?
The Stage / News / Choreographer Lloyd launches Pussycat Dolls-style burlesque act
Even then I think giving this project the label of cabaret is pushing it a bit; it sounds a wee bit like a posh girl-band or touring tribute show to me.
Does it tick anyone else off that The Pussycat Dolls are labelled a burlesque troupe? In what sense, way, shape or form do they merit that title - someone please enlighten me? Last time I checked no self-respecting burlesque performer is jumping about in their best hip-hop bling declaring that we should all wish our siginficant other was hot like them..DONTCHA! (Well, maybe a few do )
In fairness I actually quite like the Pussycat Dolls after a few gins but burlesque they ain't!
Any thoughts? Indulge me, I'm in the office procrastinating when I should be writing script.

Weren't they a Burlesque troupe befor Nicole Scherse-whatsit joined? Coz she won American Idol or something, then did a song with P-Diddy and then rocked up as lead singer with the PussyCat Dolls.
I reckon a record company saw them and thought they'd make a great marketing machine but none of them could sing so they stuck someone else as a front person.
I also don't think they were a Burlesque troupe, they were probably strippers or something because Burlesque has a different meaning in America, or different connotations anyway.
And what are you writing a script for? That sounds like a lot more fun than regular work!

It does annoy me tbh But then again I get annoyed by lot's of stuff.... I only know them through their songs (which really annoy me). As far as I can tell - the burlesque part came from them performing songs in pin up girl/ old fashioned lingerie. And they were then 'recast' as a pop group. Although like I said I don't know much about them. (Yep - Wiki is a wonderful thing :-) - if only I could be bothered to read the entire thing....)
Strangely enough - one of the things I love about burlesque is it's inclusiveness and variety but then I get annoyed by things like this..... Guess I better go get my other face....

Ok - just been corrected by my friend. They used to be a burlesque dance troupe and then shifted to pop..... apparently some of the originals still perform burlesque and are seperate from the group...

Ah, I did not know that, I always just assumed she was with them from the start. Hence why she's made a bee-line for a solo career.

I reckon you are right. They were originally dancers in a Vegas night club called The Pussycat Dolls Club where they were cited as burlesque dancers but in that very modern American understanding of it, like you say. That's my limited understanding of the situation anyway.

It is and it isn't - looming deadlines tend to dry up the old creative juices for me I've been commissioned to write a one man show for Glasgow's Glasgay! Festival called Man in a Bath and it needs to be done by mid-August so naturally I'm floating here instead of doing any real work on it

Good point, D.C, I hadn't really clocked that comment. That boy should do his homework.
What the UK certainly doesn't need is another girl-band in disguise.

An agency I work for forwarded that casting call to me...
I was rather dubious of it being billed as burlesque, too.

Oh surely someone does, but you wouldn't be able to move for the huge amounts of scarcasm in the room.
(I secretly like that song a lot, but mainly because it also refers to wanting 'a freak like me' as if the word freak is a positive which I believe it is, and I know they aren't using the same dictionary definition of freak as I do, but hey.....and I organised an event once where the winner of Strictly Dance Fever freestyled to it and blew me and the rest of the audience away)
I'd rather see a plus sized version of the Pussy Cat Dolls like a 'burlesque'/cabaret version of the Russian Big Ballet Company or what was the name of the plus sized tap dancing troupe that was always on variety shows in the 80s.....can't remember...
