Church photoshoot
I'm off in a bit to take some photos and have some photos taken in a disused church.
I've got a few ideas myself (and ones I've discounted for being too sacreligious) but as anyone else got any great ideas?
(yes Fleur du mal this is an attempt to help you while away another day, seeing as my let's play eye spy/i spy and online charades failed so miserably... though credit to Madam Guillotine guessing Gone with the Wind. The thing starting with c was computer...der)

Oooh blimey, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole! Seriosuly, it wouldn't sit well with me. There are two churches in Derby which have been converted, one into a Chinese restaurant (it used to be a shopping centre too) and one into a bar, where they once held a fetish night. Now, I've no problem with any of those businesses, especially the fetish club ^_^ - but did they have to put them into churches? I get the distinct feeling the fetish club was held there on purpose, to feel slightly sacreligious and shocking, and it kinda worked with me. But as my OH points out, at least with conversion the buildings get maintained, whereas without they'd be left to crumble. People think it's weird, as I don't live out my Catholic upbringing at all and identify mostly with neo Pagan beliefs if anything - but Tempest, I guess from your comments on the other thread I guess you can understand it. Even if you don't believe it, even if you disregard it, it still leaves something behind ...
Saying all that though, I did see a shoot that Anna Fur Laxis did in/outside a church on the PIN UP myspace. It was quite interesting and is worth a look - even if it did make me feel odd to look at ...

I LOVE derelict, crumbly buildings. And I love churches! Ooh, I'm getting all excited on your behalf, Tempest.
There are these two lovely little buildings in a graveyard down the road from Rich's. He thinks they were chapels of rest. They look victorian, like miniature churches, one either side of a pathway, and they are all boarded up. I really wish they would fix them up- they are so beautiful.
Ok, now I'm waffling on. Sorry Tempest, I don't have much advice. Maybe create a little story or scenario in your head and use that to inspire you?
Hope it goes well! And you better show us the photos!!

It's strange - I feel more comfortable in disused churchs then real ones. What type of church is it? Could you get inspired by it's background?
There's a wonderful medieval one near my grandparents I want to do some neomedieval photos in :-) It's got quiet a weird background. The lady who paid for it to be built in memory of her husband was buried in it with his embalmed heart.
it's known as Sweetheart Abby.

Aaw it's so beautiful!
There is an abbey near me- Waverley Abbey- that was abandoned during the dissolution. The ruins still stand, and they are lovely. They are supposedly haunted. I used to go there about a year ago at night with my friends and there is definitely something not normal about having stones thrown in your face when no one is there!
Hot Fuzz was filmed there too- the scene towards t he end when the villagers are at the altar.
I had an opportunity to have some photos taken there but it was too short notice so I couldn't do it

Oh bet that would have been fantastic. Suddenly got the urge to follow Tempest's lead and get some church/castle images :-)

Haha me too
I hope the weather is better for Tempest than it is here- somehow I don't think a disused church would be all that waterproof!
