Default What's the best piece of advice or tip you've ever been given?

I love these forums (or should that be fora, and herein lies a whole other argument) and love the range of subjects asked about and answered...

...but I was wondering, what's the best bit of advice or tip you've ever heard or been given?

It doesn't have to be burlesque related (those these would be great and I'm sure very useful for all of us), it could be about performing, relationships or life in general.

And I shall be deducting brownie points for the first person(s) to say don't eat yellow snow...

Good question...

Probably as my Grandma says "Everything will turn out ok in the end". And it does

So I always keep that in mind and say it regularly to my friends. I'm sure it's annoying to hear when it feels like everything is falling apart, but it's true- everything does sort itself out in the end.

It should be fora - but I digress ...

The best piece of performance based advice was not given to me directly - it was given to another forum poster by Red Sarah, but I read it and took it with me. I can't remember the exact wording, but it was basically play to your strengths - use what you're good at to make a good performance, whatever it may be. I've stuck to that idea with every act I've devised, and it's served me well

I wish my Gran had given me sage advice like that. All I got was "don't stretch after a meal or all the food will get squished in your colon and you'll never get it out"

Mine was convinced I'd die if I swallowed chewing gum, and all my teeth would break if I bit a boiled sweet. She's still bonkers to this date!

Ah my maternal Grandmother is good for advice like that. All the "don't open the door to people you don't know, if you are going out come straight home afterwards, don't talk to strangers". All well and good but she was still going at it when I was 15.

Now it's all "take that metal out of your face". So I don't see her much. She annoyed me when she told me to take all my piercings out for my Grandfather's funeral. Not her husband's- my paternal grandfather's. I happened to be very close to him and knew that he would want me going to his funeral as myself, not a watered-down version of me.

Anyway, back to the original question. The Grandma I mentioned earlier is great for serious advice. She's a retired headteacher, and as I am now a training teacher she comes in very handy
