Default Model behaviour ???????

Here's one for all the pin ups, fetish girls, and general beautys out there.

I recently sent some pics to an agency in london.

I applied to storm but apparently there database detected cheesecake in the out going message and immidiately stuck a laxative up my jaxie.
( not really but it sounds plausable )

Anyhoo, these folks were offering shoots, walk ons and odd bits and bats as character work.

Went in to see them did a few test shots, said they would like to work with me and then asked for some majour cash.

I've heard of these folks before so i don't think they are a dodgy set up and
i know of two of the girls on the books.

What experiences has anybody else had with a simular outfit.

Im not going to say the name of the folks i went to see,
but p.m be if you want to know.
Im sure by my deminer and lack of love for the naughty brigade some folks will have guessed.

We have the rebirth of our own modelling portfolio site within the next week. It actually predates MoB and we took it down when our MoB workload got overwhelming, however it's now in the final stages of development and all the 800 or so users are in the process of having their photo galleries reimported.

The reason I mention this is because there is a new ebay-style feedback/rating system which allows photographers and models who have worked with each other to comment on their experience and decide whether it was positive, negative or neutral.

Agents earn by getting you work - i.e. they get paid if you get paid.

In my own experience, agents that ask for £££ to 'join' are probably making their money by getting people to 'join' - and not necessarily by getting any work.

This recruiting method means that it is in their interest to have as many 'join' as possible. Therefore, there will be many competeing people on their books and thus the liklihood of an individual getting any work, is rather slim.

You'd probably find it more rewarding to go to a casting or extra's agency. As for modelling in itself - this is a very difficult industry to earn from indeed. Do you have a portfolio?

As James says, our model/photogarpher networking community will be 'reborn' soon and I think it will be a great way for everyone to develop their pinup portfolios and such. 'tis all very exciting...

Unhappy

As Kitty said most agents earn by getting you work and during my childhood my agent never charged me a thing, just comission on what I earnt through him getting me work.
I currently dont have an agent though 3 have come forward to ask if I would like to be put on their books and none of them have asked me for any money...

I met a girl a few weeks ago who joint an 'agency' based in London who actually came to her and asked her to join but then said she had to have a folio done by their tog which would cost her £300- and then a further £250 for admin fees!
She has seen none of the photos from her shoot as apparently they have to be kept there for 'prospective clients' nor has she gotten any job offers.

This is ofc the very bad end of the scale but it looks like there are alot of con arts out there after pretty womens money.

No ligitimate agency will ask for cash upfront. They will not ask for any amount. It's illegal for agencies to charge joining fees or "Admin fees" as they like to call them.

I say this as someone who is a member of a couple of agencies and run my own acting/performer casting agency.

If they want money - walk away.

You know, I'm not sure it's actually illegal, just that's it's usually not quite right. From the words of the modelling communities I've been on, that seems to be the case, which is why they are allowed to operate. Plus I think there are two or three top end legitimate agencies who do charge registration fees, so I'm sure it's not actually against the law
