I have to agree, as long as he can see what burlesque really means he'll most likely be very supportive. I've been pretty lucky as my fella is the creative type (script writing), and we've had many a conversation about Burlesque and performing and what I get out of it (a huge confidence kick and creative fulfillment). It would be a different matter if I was lap dancing for cash.

Not to say that a burly audience doesn't appreciate the body they see on stage, but there is more respect as a performer which makes me more comfortable. Again, not slagging off stripping, any womans choice is entirely her own, but it's not for me and my partner wouldn't be able to deal with it either. I'm getting off track here!

On a different note, I simply can't create routines in front of him! It really puts me off! But maybe that is fairly normal.

My partner is really supportive about burlesque with me.

He gives me advice on routines and costumes, which is always great as another set of eyes helps put things into perspective.

I know this as I recently asked him how he felt about me doing burlesque performace, I only asked him because people started to ask me what he thought about it, as it never occured to me that it might be a problem.

But when I asked him he said that he didn't mind as he could see that it made me happy and that he loves to see me happy. Plus he thinks it pretty cool too.

I'm not a performer, but my boyfriend loves burlesque. I was a bit annoyed though, when we went to the GoGo Cage last month, and I was talking about the narrative/humourous side to the act, and he told me "I think you missed the point" (meaning the 'point' was the stripping). I shouted at him a bit, hah. I have no problem with him enjoying the stripping (I did too!), just try to appreciate the rest of it as well!

Haha! I can just imagine doing exactly the same thing if someone said that to me (that I was missing the point) and get very ranty! I can't help it, it comes out like a tirade until I realise they're just having a little tease. Well I suppose you can't help what you're passionate about!

I thought, imagine if I'd told him that he was missing the point of 'black metal', and it's really ALL about the corpse-paint.....
