I have just recieved this email on the Tassel Time myspace:

"I find it hilarious how you feign interest in the "art" of burlesque Mr Decadent Gent whereas you and I really know your in it for the tits and perving on the ladies, go on admit it you f**kin' sleaze bag!"

Now as genuine admirer or Burlesque in all it's incarnations I find this insulting and offensive.
I have read and re-read this message and can't even find any trace of deliberate humour on the part of the sender and can only conclude it as vitriolic tripe.

I have to say this isn't new.

As a male admirer of burlesque I have come up against misundertsanding from both men and women outside of the community despite my best efforts to explain to them what burlesque is.

My brother jokingly calls me a perv, of which I'll forgive him as that is the nature of little brothers but this message I cannot easily brush off.

Ah well, time for tea that might cheer me up.

We get this kind of crap all the time - normally from a certain small group of people who shall remain nameless. I wouldn't be surprised if it's connected in some way as they've been systematically targetting pretty much everyone who works with MoB in some capacity.

Just laugh it off - if they've taken the time to form an opinion and write to you, they've obviously listened to all the podcasts! What more can you ask?

Aye, why bother giving them the satisfaction of being offended?

They have no influence over you, they can't do anything other than get annoyed - or annoying - so shrug it off! Better still, laugh at them for having nothing better to do than write random MySpace emails.

A Glasgow newspaper recently ran an article on Millie Dollar and there's been all sorts of letters expressing outrage since - it's hilarious! Perhaps not for Millie, mind... but she seems to be okay with it!

Now you mention it that is true, well I hope that theirlittle message has given them a sense of satisfaction, I however intend to go out and have some real fun...

I did read about that, some of the things people said made me chuckle a their ignorance.

Wouldn't have let it gotto me, but when you've been on cloud nine since your birthday you end up coming down to earth with a bump and I guess this was it.

There's some really pathetic people out there who send messages like that !I know from experience where i work that people who dont understand burlesque have a very warped view that i go to clubs with scarlet & watch her perform someone even called me a pimp in Birmingham ! :x

I was on an internet dating site a number of years ago and had a message from someone saying that I was not curvy I was just fat! There was no interaction with this person before so I had no idea why he would decide to send such a nasty e-mail!

Thats one of the down sides to the internet that we need to accept. There is always going to be some nasty small minded people who have nothing better to do that try and put others down and basically try and bring them down to there level.

Rise above it and remember their life must be very boring and sad if they have time to send e-mail like that!

Basically it's people using the anonymity of the internet to show their true colours - no one would dream of saying that to you in real life, but on the internet they can get away with it because you don't know who they are. Just think of it that way and you'll realise just how cowardly the person who sent the message is!
