Name Dramas!
I have adopted the name of Odile all in relation to my past and have just found out Dita has a show about Odile. In the famous ballet of Swan Lake, Odile is the black swan which was my signature role. Do you think I will still be able to use this name successfully or will people think I have immitated her? I really don't want to change it as it means so much to me especially coming from the ballet world. Please give me your insight...
Regards,
Odile x

Best thing is probably to google is along with ballet performer, burlesque performer and anything else like that you can think of to see if anything is brought up. Its obviously not 100% reliable but it's a start! xxx

I think you'll be fine. Dita may have a show about Odile, but that's one act. No one will think you've copied her if it's only one act she does - and it's probably not one of her better known acts either, so I shouldn't worry if I were you.

It seems like there are so many cross-overs in the Burly world, one way or another... similar names, similar acts... but this is your signature, whereas just one act for Dita, as Fleur said. I dont think you have anything to worry about.
Most of your audience wont know about/ have seen Dita's act, and those in the business will appreciate how hard it is to do anything that hasnt in some small way related to something that's been done before!!

If you're worried about it, why don't you give yourself a second name? Odile Odilesque, like the harem girls or Odile Oubliette if you're feeling nihilistic? Hehe, I love aliteration...

Thanks all so much for your advice. I was stressing. Dita's act is called The Black Swan and although it is about Odile I don't have a show about it. My acts are soooo different. So 'Odile' it is... xx
