Default The Greatest Burlesque Album In The World... Ever!

So as my campaign to become a burlesque DJ grinds painfully to a halt, I look to my own night in October - and to you all for musical inspiration! As I will have no burlesque gigs between now and then to gain experience, what sort of music should we do?

With acts on the hour at 10, 11, 12 and 1, we will have around 45 minute DJ sets in between.

So, my question is; what tracks should go onto the (currently non-existent, but you never know!) album of The Greatest Burlesque Album In The World... Ever!

I'll start - 'We'll Meet Again' - Vera Lynn, to finish the night off...

Be sure to check with your performers in advance which tracks they will be performing to and make sure you don't use at any other point of the night. I've performed in places where they have played performers song earlier in the evening and so the performer ends up looking like they are dancing to the D.J.'s set.

I place a vote for Mad About The Boy

Definitely a bit of Elvis... I'm thinking Jailhouse Rock and Hound Dog...
The Puppini Sisters (and someone recommended someone similar, but I can't think who...)
Some Marilyn songs - My Heart Belongs To Daddy is a personal fave...
Play some fifties rock 'n' roll for dancing, like Bill Haley...
Christina Aguilera's new album is not to be underestimated!
A bit of Glen Miller can work well...
For quieter moments with less dancing I recomment Django Reinhardt, Jelly Roll Morton, and Bob Dylan...
Johnny Cash can be good in those sort of times too...
Show tunes, show tunes...
Love the idea of Vera Lynn at the end!

Right, sorry if mine is too obvious...

No no, that's the whole point - I don't want to play stuff that I think is cool and miss playing the blindingly obvious for regular burlesque night attendees...

Songs by Title / Artist please! 8)

I love musicals too.... my vote goes for Shipoopee (or however you spell it) from the Music Man.. silly but funny.... failing that I like to hear a little Cole Porter

Angel does have a very valid point, that said said here's a favourite 10 in no particular order:
Etta James: I Just Wanna Make Love to You, (diet coke break)
Louis Prima: Buona Sera. Louis Who? He's the voice of King Louis in Disney's version of The Jungle Book.
Big Joe Turner: Corrine Corrina
Dave Edmonds: The King of Love
Bobby Darrin: Mac The Knife
Christina Aguilera: Candyman
Jerome Kern: Pick Yourself Up
And just for my self indulgence:
YouTube - Fred and Ginger - Me & U
And just for the smooch:
Patsy Cline: Crazy
The Righteous Brothers: You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
If any of these are foreign to you, go to YouTube, they all know me there,
just say the witch sent you.
