Hi Sarah,

That sounds like a sensible way of conducting business

And yes, on the promoter's front, I also prefer to have too much knowledge. Although, I also have a tendency to over-organise. x

I've seen this from both sides of the arguement at various points. As a venue owner I wholeheartedly welcome something like this, especially as we have dealings with a lot of foreign and out of town bands and artists. This was both parties are clear of what is expected from a performance and can barter on issues before they arise and not at the end of the evening when arguements can start!

We contract people ourselves for functions and gigs held here (when being held by an outside agent) so I would never feel awkward responding to a list of requirements etc from a performer unless it seemed unduly unfair or a point wasn't clear.

A sticky issue from both sides of the coin I think but well done!

1 or 2 for us- it's definitely great to see someone organised and makes things much clearer from the outset!
I can't imagine why a promoter would be put off by it- that would worry me!

I agree with Al & Sarah; particularly Al's point, if you have a promoter or venue manager who is put off by professionalism there is definitely cause for worry. But also agree with Sarah that for smaller bookings an e-mail trail is good enough to set things down.

As a producer and event manager for my own company and for a local authority here in Scotchyland I deal with artists and agents daily and thorough T&Cs are just par for the course. There's nothing worse than things being up in the air, a paper trail is also essential so that other members of your team can look and clearly see what status you are at wtih a booking.

From a promoters POV; I'm organising all the street & parade entertainment for an outdoor arts festival we have here in June so as well as just confirming availability and artists requirements our own terms need to be adhered to - health & safety, risk assessments and public liabilty insurance etc. All these things are so important for a successful and smooth event, so there should be some wiggle room to discuss terms with an artist.

In short, oh aye, bring on the organised professional with nicely detailed performance agreements, it's where we all should be at.
