Dita's range of feather fans...
...I thought I'd seen it all when I saw Dita's beautiful pink pheasant feather fans ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=iQFbqjB450g) but she seems to have outdone herself with her new Cointreau act fans ( YouTube - Dita Von Teese).
I've no idea who/what created those feathers, but now I feel I NEED to know. Are they simply heavily stylised, top-of-the-range ostrich feathers, or have they come from some kind of pre-historic dragon?!
Answers on a postcard...

Those are rather impressive! I would guess ostrich feathers that have been styled, possibly heat treated - they look a bit like they've been permed! - but they look much bigger and wider than any ostrich feathers I've ever seen. Maybe they're just from a very big ostrich??
I take it Dita's website yields no info? Or a good old fashioned wikipedia trawl?

I had a quick google-oogle, but found nothing... and I'm supposed to be essay writing, so didn't spend too long searching.
The lack of movement in the feathers reminds me of a hair-sprayed and heat-blasted mohawk, so I'm tempted to think the feathers have been fixed and ironed.
But like you say, they're huge! I'm inclined to think they might be synthetic, but then, they do still have spines, and look fluffy like feathers, rather than fuzzy like wool...
hmm.

Yeah I wondered if they might be synthetic, but I didn't know if such a thing as synthetic feathers existed, or how you'd make them - and yes, they do look pretty real ...

I have it on good authority that the fans are made from the downy hair of a foal unicorn.
