The rebirth of burlesque in the UK - where & when did it start?
I'm currently working on my dissertation so I will probably be posting a few such questions over the next few weeks, so please humour me! Anyone who can help, it would be much appreciated.
I am writing about the new wave of burlesque, with a particular emphasis on the UK scene. There's lots of stuff out there on the American scene, which is what much of my reading over the last couple of years has covered, but I am struggling with finding info about the UK.
Does anyone know (even roughly) where and when modern burlesque began in the UK? What were the first clubs / performers? Who were the pioneers? For example, Michelle Bladwin's book talks about the Whoopee Club but doesn't say when it began. Were there other clubs prior to this?
If you can answer any of these questions or can suggest any links / websites that might help, I'd be most grateful!
