Thanks, that was a really interesting read. I'd love to see more political-awareness raising events in Britain. I know we have charity fundraisers and all that, but awareness-raising would be something really worthwhile to do. Especially now when the country is going to pot!

As for the thing about steretypes, I've always loved to play with stereotypes in performances, e.g. in my 'Desperate Housewife' act the character breaks out of her drudgery to become a liberated sexy mama! And in the Bo Peep one I play with the contrast between girlish feminine innocence and sexuality. All done with humour, nothing heavy. This article has given me some more ideas! xx

Yeah !!

I was sure that bees don't sting and wasps die after they've stung but once my housemate had stopped rolling around the floor pointing at me in fits of laughter it was very kindly explained to me that bees do sting and that wasps can continue to sting many times without fear of death and its actually the poor bee that dies after only one sting.

The article wasn't actually saying that burlesque was nerdy. The one comment that was made was by a burly lass, I think, and was a throwaway remark. What the article was actually about, which is far more important and interesting, was the use of burlesque to raise awareness of various political and social issues.

I love politics in burly x As soon as something happens in british polotics near a show i'll probably lampoon it.
My favourite politico sketches were in france near the elections.
Your playing to a liberal crowd anyway but it was a chance for the girls performing to air there views about sarkosy being a wife beater and tyrant.

P!*k still won but it was so refreshing to see the issue aired.

It's suprising to see burly of that magnitude happening in texas. anywhere else i would expect it. Anamosity towards bush is growing, i don't know how someone hasn't shot him yet ?
