Default I have my first trapeze class and Im terrified!

Im not scared of the trapeze or heights- I'm scared of how bad at it I will be as Im so unfit, not over weight, I just have very litle strength.

I tried it several years ago at a circus skills day and was o.k when on it but the problem is I cant pike. I've been practising on a chin up bar but just cant do it.

I know a few of you on here do static trapeze and wondered what sort of things you learn in the first few lessons.

I'm so worried I wont be able to get on it.

Wow! This sounds amazing! I'm very jealous!
I used to do Gymnastics and it's scary how quick you loose upper body strength! I am sure they will help you build it up and they won't expect you to do too much for the first few lessons!

Just have fun and try not to think too much about not being able to do it. Remember you're there to learn and they are there to help you!

Enjoy and let us know how it goes! xxxxxx

Ah, yes there's great chance you won't be able to lift your arms above your head for a week after, but don't be scared- don't think about it and you'll be fine!
As for "piking" (that's the move you make to get on to the bar, or at least one of them) it took me 3 weeks to learn, but some people take 2 months or more- it's esy once you've got it, but until you do it's actually one of the more difficult ones to get your head round!
You'll be fine!!

hey hun, i teach trapeze and i'm sure your first class will be a blast!

where are you learning? who with?

your first class will probs just deal with conditioning etc, like wild card kitty said, your arms will knack but piking isn't an issue.

If you are really concerned about be unable to pike up, ask your teacher to show you how to 'beat' which encourages momentum. Thats what i do when I'm feeling less strong.

i actually hated my first trapeze lesson so don't place too much importance on that first class... the strength and confidence will come in time...

have fun

Im beginning to realise that the more i worry about things the better they turn out to be. im officially the shortist wimpiest person to ever hang by their knees but Im hooked and full of energy from it. The teacher is great and thankfully strong enough to give me an extra shove or saftey on the bits im still weak at. i did cheat and use the lower bar a few times that i could put one foot on and tip over. Just have to get over my wimpiness but when I did it at the Circus Space it was twice as low and I was twice as scared so I feel I got somewhere. But prefered the higher trapeze because that way I'll get used to it better.

Still go into a mass panic doing gazelles but can do a bird cage o.k because i have quite bendy spine.

Im doing it at the Synergy centre in London. If anyone wants more details I'll p.m them to you.

The only problem is all the exercise has given me more energy instead of tiring me out like i hoped so maybe the insomnia would go but now its midnight and I want to practise knee hangs!

Does anyone know if there are any classes like this round Leeds?
