I consider myself to be a burlesque fan, but I am not from a goth / alternative background - I do however have a great appreciation of the vintage side, I am drawn in by the costumes and the creativity of performers.

I just asked my hubby why he likes it, he said the following:

Its saucy & cheeky but not sleazy, its fun, and not cheesy & tacky, and its something we can and do both enjoy.

Its entertaining, and the shows we have seen have had comedy aspects to it too.

And he loves my honeymoon nipple tassles!!!!!!

I am not a goth myself but I do have many friends who are into the goth/alternative scene.

I have always loved the classic vintage look as well as the films, music and the fem-fetale icons...I swear I was born in the wrong era!

I have a love of performance of any kind... i just love all the glitz and glamour of the stage!

Over here it is all sorts of people, and it depends more on 1) the type of club and 2) who the performers and managers are marketing to.

My night The Ruby Revue is on at The Subculture, it's an alt venue-which I stress we do decorate highly so it doesn't quite resemble the shit hole it is in the daytime...However I am a strip beat lovin' revilvalist. My roots are within punk as are many of my friends who do burlesque I guess it appeals to the punk crowd because it's inclusive and non judgemental, most burlesque performers from whatever walk of life have a punk attitude. But I would say the appeal is totally universal and if you consider burlesque as it's definition as a parody you could apply that to a younger audience also...
