I've now changed my email address on myspace, just to be safe!
I haven't really had an discriminatory probs thankfully, but I am still at uni so I don't know what will happen when I leave and go for work. The worst thing I've had is when one of my friends decided it would be impressive to tell his mates that I am a stripper and that he can get free lapdances whenever he feels like it. Of course they thought this was brilliant, I on the other hand was fairly pissed off. I have tried very hard to emphasise the difference between burlesque and strip clubs and to be very clear about what kind of performance it is that I do but unfortunately now these people all think I am a stripper!

The only time it is a problem (if nothing is in your contract) is if you are involved in illegal acts - which you aren't. So be proud of it!!! :-)

You probably do want to check your contract quite closely though. I work in local government, and my contract states that I can't work in any other form of paid employment at the same time as doing my current job, without special dispensation. Apparently it's quite a popular clause, and could have quite a big impact on performers who earn a little bit of extra pin money by performing.

I can't quite believe what I've just been reading!!! I've read through all of these threads and am totally shocked that employers actually make decisicions based on what they've read on an employees facebook/myspace - have they nothing betting to do??? And what business is it of theirs anyway, what you do at home in your own time has absolutely nothing to do with them!!
Unfortunately, there are some very sad people in this world who need to "get a life" - as I've mentioned on here before, I'm not involved in performing Burlesque but I am self employed and make burlesque clothing a fetish wear, when I mentioned this to one of the mothers at my son's school she was totally horrified and hasn't spoken to me since...... silly cow!!!

When I were a nipper and just starting out on the internet, I was given advice like this. I adopted the "nom de interweb" of Kitt Walker and created some hotmail email addresses to match. Only those who need to know, know my real name/ email.

I did that too! My myspace has no mention of my real name (in the 'real name' section I still put Fleur du Mal) so that no one can track me down through that, I only add people with similar interests, and I have a separate e-mail address for Fleur. My boyfriend also told me never to post pictures showing my whole face, but I gave up on that after a while - only to find someone I had added recognised me from real life! There are precautions you can take, like never using your real name and never, ever mentioning your job, but the unlikely may still happen ...

Well your acts our lovely and your pictures are great. So for these guys in your office you have probably become this woman of mystery and don't be surprised if you end up getting lots of cups of coffee made for you. If you hold your head up and don't act ashamed of who you are they will treat you like the lady you are.
Good Luck

Thanks for all the replys.
I am legendary in the office ;-)
I'm out with them for a few drinks tomorrow evening so will see if anyone mentions it! I'm very corporate when I dress and go to work so the fact that I have this other side to me has intreaged the people I work with!
I'm going to be on TV in a few weeks and my dancing would have come out then anyway! At least its out in the open!
