I am launching a new cabaret-salon on Friday June 29th at the glorious Royal Vauxhall Tavern. This will hopefully become a weekly affair and a hub for artistic endeavours, with links to major theatres and arts organisations. But it needs the support of Artists - so this is the call-out. If you are passionate about cabaret and burlesque, if you have ideas and convictions and enjoy art that provokes and inspires, then come and have a drink with us on the 29th.

We will be giving away artists memberships at the launch night which will get you free entry to future Kabaretts along with free bubbly for those who arrive early and dressed appropriately.

Just to make it clear - we're not specifically looking to HIRE performers for this event because it's a SALON - it's a chance for people to come down with their mates, try out new stuff in front of a very friendly audience, and make connections with fellow artists. At this stage we're planning to have a headliner each week who will do a turn to inspire the rest of us and give us a theme to work on. So if you are keen to get on stage, COME DOWN! Think of it as a drop-in centre/house party/open mic.

Kabarett is, first and foremost, for artists themselves, although it will of course be open to the public. And if it turns into a wild artistic free-for-all, so much the better.

If you have an act to do, a poem to recite, a song to sing, a manifesto to read out.... COME DOWN!

This is taking over from Le Phreeque which we have shelved because unfortunately the director got very ill and hasn't been able to work on it for a while. We're also splitting the night down the middle, so that the first section - roughly 9pm to midnight - is Kabarett, and the second is a club night. Anyone who comes to Kabarett is very welcome to stay for the clubbing!

It will ALMOST be like an open mic, except that if a lot of people start to want to perform every week, we'll set up some kind of system and people can book in which week they want to do their thing.

I can't stress enough that this is a salon des artistes - you can come along and sing a half-written song, or show the bit of your act you're having trouble with, and get good honest friendly feedback. Or just come along to watch, give feedback, get pissed, network, etc.

From this project I'll be assembling two other projects for later this year, one of which will be a very exciting transatlantic venture.

What an absolutely fantastic idea. I'm sure it'll be very beneficial to lots of artists. Can't wait.

that's the idea. it will be a weekly event, hopefully at the RVT, which is a fabulous little venue with great lighting and sound and a real history. but it's crucial that we have a good turn-out to this event or the management are probably going to do something unspeakable, like get an outside promoter in playing happy house....

so tell your london friends to come down on Friday 29th and not only see some terrific performances, but also become part of an artistic community!

i just had an email from the lovely Ms La Vey about a song she wants to workshop at Kabarett - it's already inspiring people! Those who come on the 29th June will also be treated to prize giveaways and a rollicking old singalong.
