I want examples of lies we tell to ourselves for whatever reason. For example I have clothes in my wardrobe that have not fit me for quite some time. I can't bring myself to get rid of them, and so to justify this, I tell myself I will slim down back into them.

Yes I do that too! I think one of my lies that I tell myself would have to be that I will write an amazing novel that will be made in to a film directed by Pedro Almodovar. It will be a book and film that is talked about for years to come. It will also be first shown at Cannes Film festival and it will win The Palme D'or. So even though I have not even started the book its not that much of a lie is it!?!!

I'm also of the "I'm a writer" style liar...it's been a very long time since I have written anything...but I still, every year, have as one of my new years' resolutions "start chapter 1"

Ah well, maybe one day.

I'm quite a deluded person, so I'm sure that are a million other little lies I tell myself that I can't think of right now.

I'm a frustrated writer too! Although I prefer think of it more as a 'dream' rather than a lie I tell myself!

Oh dear - a Star Trek liar. Now that is sad.

What's not sad is liking TNG, DS9, Voyager or Enterprise, so I'm ok. They are just cool! :wink:

One of my favourites at the moment (I must be getting old) is that if I have a bit of a snooze on a Saturday afternoon, I absolutely will not do the same on Sunday afternoon, but will be really productive and useful and tidy things and the like. But I really do mean it on the Saturday...

The lie I tend to tell myself all week is that I'll start my diet on Saturday. Then, on Saturday, I tell myself it'd be better to start a diet on a Sunday, because that's the beginning of the week. And on Sunday, Monday becomes the beginning of the week!
Also, every day, at about 3am I say that tomorrow I'll go to bed early and go to the gym the day after.
And I'm going to start playing bass guitar again.

I tell myself that fat doesn't exist on a Saturday. I don't care that much, but it makes my mum smile and give me buckwheat pancakes.
