What the HECK is goin' on????

Okay...I don't know if I can take much more....
First, I (and several others) get conned into ( what I like to now refer as Primark Burlesque) a gig which provided none of what it promised - ':WALLBASH:' I didn't perform on principle but some of the other girls did and I thought it was really unfair - Perhaps there needs to be a way to check the credentials of people offering casting on MOB? - and NOW, I find out that someone is basically using my name!!!! Miss Devine on myspace! WTF?! I also noticed that James and Kittie have her as a friend as well. ':?'
That's a bit too close, don't you think?! I have sent her a message introducing myself and letting her know that I've been using the name since 2001 and hopefully she'll get back to me.
It's getting so you can't trust anyone in burlesque anymore...what's going on?????'

I feel for you sweetie, hope your Pri-Bq event comes up with the goods (is it possible for an event to have a positive outcome/something good come out of it after the event has happened?) eventually.

I understand your frustration with the name business as well - having been going to classes for a while and meeting lots and lots of people who like me are very new to the scene, I know how painfully hard it is to come up with a name that sounds Burly, 'feels' right for you as a person/performer and
is original - however, there has been lots of suitable and gentle 'that's a really great name, but I think there is already someone called XYZ, etc' and I will continue to do this.

I knew there would be a million and one cherry's, but really loved the name, but I'm very protective of my Cherry Noir-ness

at least it's oe way of making things a little more formal - other than that I think it's just a case of being on the ball and kindly pointing out when someone has take on a name that is already in use.

Hi Mysti, Hope you sort it out, I know its really crappy when shit like this happens - My biggest problem at the moment is trying to decipher who are performers and who are not - even fans of Burlesque seem to have stage names!

That is indeed a tricky one

, I guess in this wonderful world everyone wants to feel included and a bit more glam than their regular everyday self. On a similar note, what would define a 'performer'? Would you have to have done a certain number of gigs, have a certain number of acts, have performed to a crowd of a particular size or perhaps have been paid for your time before you can describe yourself as a performer? Or is it a case of 'I perform, therefore I am'? :?

Well, when I started, googling wasn't as popular is it is now, so I think that if you're going to become a performer and knowing that there are artists that have been around longer, the onus is on you to check to make sure the name you have chosen is not being used by any one in any incarnation...I mean, what if someone 'came up' with the name Cherry Noire? That wouldn't be very cool, now would it? Or say Kitty Claw? or Ditta Von Teaze? Okay, so it's spelled differently but pronounced the same so does that make it okay?
I dunno, am I being overly sensitive?

I just tend to accept all requests. I only started my MySpace account about 3 days ago and I've already got well over 300 'friends'.

I really don't think you are hun - knowing how important word of mouth is in getting acts/performances/recommendations the name you take is pretty much everything that you have - as not many performers have logos it really is the only tangible thing that people can associate with you. I would be equally miffed if I heard their was a Cherri Noire knocking around - whether they were performing under this name or just hanging out as that. Have you heard back from the Miss Devine yet?

Surprisingly, no...perhaps she's not had access to her myspace for a few days, I don't know. I'll definitely give her about a week and then I'll query again. In the meantime, I'll talk to a solicitor friend of mine who's in the entertainment field and see what's what.

you know you can check if people have read your msg or not on myspazz?

go to your myspazz 'sent' folder

all the msgs you sent people are there.

sent = unread

read = obviously, theyve read it.

replied = obviously, they replied to you.

and yes it is true! when my mate told me she knew when i was ignoring her (haha) i thought she was joking!
