I don't get out much these days so I don't really know what this thread is about exactly but it is quite interesting to me as there are two recurring issues being raised again which are akin to last years Brighton Burlesque Ball and various other events -
1) Promoter ethics - with so many newbies trying their hand at promoting as well as performing, it's bound to be a mixed bag.
2) Identity protection - with so many newbies and enthusiasts taking their inspiration from those around, we must accept some level of unavoidable clashing. Most of these people will never do anything with the name anyway. Obviously a direct rip off is unacceptable and this is not just about names - it's the whole image.
Simple curtesy and empathy would prevent alot of these issues along with a little research.
The one thing I am confused about is the MySpace reference . I'm not sure of why my having someone (unnamed here) person on my MySpace friends list or not, is relevant?
We openly invite everyone to use these forums without a personal interview, so why should MySpace be treated differently?
I pay far less attention to MySpace then here - i have limnited time I can spend on the net answering e-mail, forum posts or validating strangers on MySpace.
Have I missed something?Am I (and James) getting some blame by proxy, for giving validation to this event, via an add on MySpace?
I have lots of others whom i have not even met in person from MoB forums, on my MySpace friends list. I have no idea what these people do in their spare time and whether it's down right evil, barmy, philanthropic, miraculous or even average.
Should I refuse add requests in case, several months on they wish to set up rival businesses or turn out to be ethically challenegd promoters or diva performers or dodgy agents or general sleaze meisters etc that I don't want to be associated with? If i discover a good personal reason to delete someones 'add' I will when i notice it and find time to fish them out of the 3000 or so names.
Disappointments in others is part of life but at least when one person disappoints, it shows how good another is.
I don't feel responsible for anyone's decision to perform anywhere on Friday - no one asked for my advice.
By the sounds of things, they should have!
Mysti - can you tell us what went so wrong? I am most curious now and maybe it will be a learning curve for those involved on both sides of the situation? What promises were broken?
'Primark Burlesque' - would this be where the Burlesque Bandwagon Bandits stop off to top off their tops and tails? :P
Have I read and understood this correctly? :?

Mooi,
I was not, in fact referring to you, unless your name is Miss Devine on Myspace in which case, you are definitely younger than I am and I have actually been performing under the name of Mysti Vine ( I started out as Miss Divine back in 2001) for 6 years.
I am in the process of writing you a letter regarding Friday. I just thought it might be better if names weren't mentioned (as you can see I didn't, you outed yourself).
Kittie/James,
I wasn't accusing you of anything, I understand you two are in high demand for myspace friendship I just thought it strange that someone with the exact pronunciation of Mysti Vine/Miss Divine has you in her top friends and I know had someone with the name Kittie Claw/Kitty Klaw, asking to be my friend, I would most definitely alert you to such a thing. That's all.
Much love,

I actually don't see Miss Devine and Mysti Vine as being particularly similar or at least similar enough to warrant an alert.
I thought the 'hook' of Mysti Vine was in the play on words - that it sounds like 'Miss Devine' but actually neither says that or even means it by definition - unless there is some biblical reference to dew drops on Vine leaves I have not picked up on, "i am the the Vine" and so on as one of the Old Testament prophets once said.
Also, words such as Devine, Honey, Cherry, Rouge, Angel, and the many synonyms are extremely popular as are variations of brand names and celebrity names.
You can't seriously criticise people for using the pre-name 'Miss' either, can you?
The name Kitty is extremely popular - i don't hold against others to be also using it. Kittie sounds the same but is deliberately spelled differently and my stage name Kittie Klaw is well known. Any direct rip would be obvious, i.e. as you have said, Kitty Claw would be a good example.
But Miss Claw (I believe there already is something similar on our forums) and Kitty variations are not my property nor my business to disparage.
If they are indeed to be obviously imitating my acts or something in conjunction then I would have cause for concern or as i have seen, people I know copying my CV etc then I would be piqued.
However it is more likely, that they have no intention of imitating or rivaling me and are probably unaware of potential issues over it - they are likley to have just picked the best screen name they could whilst registering and have though no more of it.
People with bad will are quickly seen through anyway. Don't worry about it, in fact if you think they are taking inspiration from you, then it's flattering.
"miss devine" in google yields 882 results - would you take them all on? Or just those using it a shorter time than yourself?
I doubt it would occur to someone wishing to use the name 'Miss Devine' to check such spurious spelling variations beyond things like " Miss D Vine" which by the way, appears to be an eatery on the continent.
I don't think you have anything to worry about - unless this person is promoting a similar set of routines?
chillax as they say. 8)
