Depressingly true. It's long been known by myself that women are constantly pressurised by the media to look a certain way - only the goal is impossible to reach because of tricks of the trade. Maybe one day the self same media will suffer a backlash from the same women whose lives they continue to make ore difficult by this impossible concept of perfection. I'm happy I'm a guy.

Absolutely bloody fantastic-this should be shown on tv in every commercial break to get the message through to girls and women that the advertising they see just isn't real.
There is so much pressure on females and males, but especially females, to be thin, beautiful, gorgeous and sexy all the time. I hate it when you read gossip magazines and they have circled a patch of sweat on a celebrity-like they're not human or something!! x x x

This is a drum that needs banging long and loud. Next time you see a cornflake advert, look more closely: You will see a most beautiful twenty something couple with two absolutely gorgeous, well disciplined toddlers, living in a half million pound home, flimed in a kitchen that's big enough to hold most companies Christmas dance in. Then look in your local newspaper at the jobs page and tell me where you see the sort of jobs, that most of us do, advertised at a salary in excess of £150K to be able to support that kind of television lifestyle. I recently saw Thelaih's website www.thehourglass.eu where, in the gallery was a 59-year-old woman, posing in classic underwear, without the help of an air brush, computerised digital enhancement or plastic surgeon;s scalpel, looking every one of her 59 years and bloody fabulous for it! Men grow cold as girls grow old, and we all loose our charms in the end............................

Yes, does raise an interesting point. Ironically women tend to pressure themselves into unreal expectations of what they should look like more than men. (When women make themselves look good it's mainly for other women rather than men.) Conversely though given the pnuematic breasts, air-brushed skin and hips and hairless bodies of women presented in lads mags, it gives men unrealistic expectations of what they think women should look like when in their scants and less.

Its a shame for the guys as well as from an early age, they are told what is attractive and what isn't attractive. The media pumps photos, posters and videos through us every day with the 'picture perfect' models in. A big hate of mine was the Eryc Pryd video for call on me-imagine being a teenage girl watching that?? The women all looked faked tanned up to the eyeballs and were made to look like the only thing they were good for was thrusting their hips and fou fou's (!) at the camera. Now, there's nothing wrong with this per se but if you're a young, impressionable person then you're going to think that that's what people do!!
I have seen many girls and boys over the years try to conform to the stereotype that is 'perfection' and its soul destroying. I have a very good friend who works in the cosmetics world and he is killing himself by not eating in the week as he was told that he would do better by being 'thinner' - f*cking crazy if you ask me.
Anyway, I've just realised that I'm now going to win the prize for the longest post ever in the history of MOB so I shall sign off!! Toodle-loo!! x

OK, let's stir it up . . .
She looks better for it doesn't she?
As a photographer, I spent the best part of my life getting rid of people's wrinkles and spots, whitening their bloodshot eyes and fag stained teeth. Day in and day out I essentially do what's shown on that clip to both men and women in order to make them look their "best".
Don't get me wrong. I don't sgree with this idea of perfection, far from it, but it's what clients want, and this clip is just another ad.
As for the DOVE thing. They're owned by Unilever who also own AXE - a lads brand deoderant in whose ads appear loads of those aforementioned pnuematic breasted, air-brushed skined, hairless bodied women, LUX - fronted by the super skinny Jessica Parker, SLIMFAST, SUNSILK, PONDS etc. who's ads look exactly like the poster in the clip.
Hypocrites the lot of them. What I think they're doing is trying to hook some of the market that the glam products don't reach. Bit like the McDonalds - Pret a Manger thingy.
Phew.
I'm a nice guy really, bloody whisky, always gets the better of me.

Tas, I love it when someone puts forwarda well thought out and researched argument (unlike mine!!!) I never knew most of the information you've put across and its interesting to know that they may just be filling a 'gap in the market'. Sad when you think about it x
