Lol! Is it really bad that I think the first guy isn't good looking at all?? Mind you, I've been told that I have unusual taste in men (crush on Noel Edmonds at 13, Robbie Coltrane at 17 to present day!!)
Wouldn't it be interesting if they could do one of those on all of us from the beginning of our lives until the end? Sort of a Bella's/Kittie's/Dolores/Warren's/insert name here! life in 2 minutes!!

Do you know, academics and intellectuals, sit around pipe-smoke filled, university common rooms, discussing topics such as covered in this thread and come up with pseudo-intellectual reasons, based on f*ck knows what, and the media, that's the red top tabloid media, give them columns and columns on the basis that they are university dons. Well bollocks. I have just read and re-read every entry to this thread and I have never felt more proud to be part of it. You are all so fabulously down to earth. But just in case you might think that I am going all PhD on you, cop this: www.pariscancan.com/img/photos/photo_05.jpg

Reality often sucks in a major way. Illusions can be fun when you know they are carefully constructed.
You don't have to believe in them though.

I personally believe that the reason why so many people struggle with reality is because they do believe in the 'constructed' world that we live in. They do believe that models have perfect skin/hair/nails, they do believe that models can eat whatever they want and never put on weight and they do believe that being thin makes you happy. I totally agree with your point and think you have hit the nail on the head-its the fact that people don't get that the illusion is exactly that, an illusion, and that's when real lifedissapoints.x

Ah but you are not going to be free for long. The first adverts for male toiletries (that arent for shaving) are on TV, and Selfridges and places are marketign cosmetics for blokes. No one can escape!

I know most things are touched up, but alot of the media darlings are just plain beautiful. So its not necessarily a totally unrealistic ideal in that it can exist, just not that often.
I just object to getting it shoved in my face all the time. That said, I m also completely sucked in because I want to be like that, consider myself inferior cos Im not, am on a constant diet cos I am not as skinny as "the other girls." etc. Its a dual thing; you KNOW why you feel like this, but you cant do anything about it, the power of the media and societal pressure is too strong, and you are immersed in the youth and beauty culture from day one. So we are all doomed
