Default 2 questions - new night!

Hi Darlings

For along time now I've been thinking of doing a burlesque night and just wanted your wondeful opinions.

Is there room for another night in Birmingham? and if so other than google is there anywhere I can check if the name has been taken?

look forward to your view xxxx

I think Google is probably your best bet to make sure your name is unique although you could try yahoo or msn. I think theres always room for another burlesque night, the key is to make it different, what could you offer that other night can't?
For example I loved the MOB night at the Hanbury Club in Brighton but its set up as a cabaret night and as far as I'm aware unless you book a table to eat you don't get a seat. I'd like to see another night set up that has more of a club theme, just as an alternative. Theres always room for more, just find your gap in the market.

Hi Luluspanx,

Google does tend to be the best place to check for names of nights-I only know this because I'm in the process of setting up my own night!

Isn't there always room for another burlesque night?!! I think EllaEmerald has it right by suggesting that maybe you do something different though. For mine, I'm trying to concentrate on the small things as its those that seem to make the difference when I go out so would like to give people the same positive experiences as I have had x

Yes! Let's have more Birmingham Burlesque!

Personally, I think "the more the merrier" is the key phrase here - providing you don't step on the diary toes of the well-established Candybox, you can count me in for a start... where do I get tickets?

Do you need a compére?

Thanks for your feed back. The name doesn't seem to be used so there's on tick in the box.

I would never step on The Candy Box's toes as they do such a wonderful evening I wouldn't want to miss it myself.

The idea for the night is hav a good mixture of acts of all kind, weird, wild wacky and tacky! (to coin a phrase) Kind of like the old VIVA CABARET that used to be on channel 4. So not just burlesque, also want to introduce some new skool burlesque, I feel that people love the era but get stuck there musically.

The only trouble I seem to be having is finding the right venue, I've worked on the Birmingham club scene for years as I'm a dj but having real trouble finding a venue that can cater for my needs.

I will most definately need a compere send me your blurb to luluspanx@blueyonder.co.uk xxx

Default brum shows

hey lulu

that's great news, why not combine your love of dance music with burlesque and have a show followed by dance DJs - almost all the other burlesque nights play vintage music.

i did this for the Edinburgh festival in 2003 and it was a format that works really well.

there are not many burlesque nights in brum and the only one we really hear about is the candybox.... only one of the best nights in the uk !!!!
as long as you keep in mind that anything you do would have to be at least a week apart, to be fair !!! which shouldn't be too hard as they have 4 shows a year at the moment.

what names do you have in mind - if anyone knows whats out there its us !!!

best of luck

Hi Sarah

Defo going for a mix of music and probabl stepping away from the vintage stuff, want to have more of a party atmosphere!

Probably looking at doing something every other month to be honest, we'll have to see how it goes.

Thinking of calling it 'THE BOOM BANG BURLESQUE' plus I'm working on a couple of new shows for myself that are a bit different, so fingers crossed and venue permitting we shall be going ahead.

We've swapped a few messages about this Lulu, I would just add that from all the market research I've done for my own new club show that launches in March - playing dancey music may lead to attracting the wrong type of crowd.

As much as I personally love trance and house, I've been given the impression by a lot of people that "ravers" don't want to have to stop dancing to watch performances.

And that the genuine burlesque fans may get a bit confused if there are too many musical styles throughout the night.

I deffo wish you all the best with it of course, and if you get a format sorted where you CAN mix in loads of house stuff, awesome!

One of my Chaplin routines has him dancing to a few house trax tho . . . .

Hi Warren

I was thibking of going for an ecelectic mix of 80's, oldskool electro etc rather than banging dance anthems, but a good mix rather than just rock-a-billy etc
