well this is rather interesting. Until two weeks ago, I was a full time circus performing monkey, corporate stilt whore and dancing bunny. However, the real world has recently smacked me rather swiftly in the face and I've got a real job for now. I keep on telling myself it's for now... please god...

When I took the job, I posted on the MOB about selling out and recieved some lovely advice. It really made me see the difference between burlesque and circus. Realistically; burlesque appreciates the bills, rent and underwear needs of the real world. Circus only allows for holey leotards and near skeletal looks due to years of beans on toast. Since taking my new job (account manager for beneFit cosmetics) i have done the following:
1. Worn make-up and heels to go to the shops (man in iceland laughed)
2. Unashamedly discussed the reasons & need for wearing glitter
3. Planned a "tis the season to be gorgeous" party
4. Had more ideas for acts than ever before
5. Decided to buy my tight-wire from france and SCREW the cost
6. Had beans on toast and TWO eggs...

So delighted to be earning, not too fussed about suffering for my art any longer and looking forward to training again in the new year.

oh and in reply to vicky butterfly (hi i'm vicki with an i!) doing something too long got boring for me, since being deprived of climbing ropes due to christmas shopping hours... I leapt on a rope today on my day off and was throughly delighted to be up there. Brilliant!

Up until yesterday I was a Team Coach in a call centre - this is actually the first day of my Christmas holidays and I've just spent 2 hours catching up on all the MoB posts I've missed this week, time well spent I think!

As of January I will be working in the merchandise department of the same company, little dull but I'm looking forward to it. I also hope to be performing some time next year, but don't hold me to it - the idea seems terrifying at the moment !

I get totally both sides of the 'sick of what you do all day thing' - I spend my day monitoring advisor's calls, so when I get home I just don't want to pick up the phone and chat to people (makes me quite bad for call screening actually), but that will change come January. However I used to work for a company that sells high-end feather and crystal hair-accessories and jewelry, and I absolutely spent more than I should on the stock - but who can resist staff discount when it sparkles so invitingly...

I'm a jack of all trades really. I trained as a dancer so I earn a crust doing music videos, adverts and podium dancing. I'm currently trying to make my mark as a burlesque performer which I'm enjoying. I've done a lot of gigs up north but not really sure where to start in London, it's so damn big! I also do a bit of freelance journalism and I'd love to do more but I'm terribly lazy. Writing takes self-discipline and I just don't have too much of that!

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Well. . . by day I work for an architects in the IT department. I am also at Uni 1 day a week studying for my IT degree! Not very burlesque at all :-(

A number of people at work are starting to find out about my alter ego Miss Diamond Blush and what she gets upto when I'm not in the office! A few of them want to come and see her perform!

I do a ton of community work and my main "personality" is as a healer/mom/community organizer/pagan priestess. So I'n constantly sending out emails about events and whatnot, in that vein. Everyone knows I do the fire performance and that has been incorporated into the ritual pieces as well... but burlesque is completely different. Well, someone recently told me I better market that aspect just as much as everything else!
Funny, but I thin burlesque is one of the most healing things I've done for myself, and it appears that it has the same effect on others!


How does everyone make time for costuming and rehearsals??? That is my biggest downfall at the moment.
