if there is a special technique on how to get a nice avatar, please post it...Mine is so small but it was the only way i could get it, I even had to make it black and white in photoshop so it would be smaller!
And James, if you have a moment, can you tell us how to get a performer under our avatar? Maybe you have to do that yourself..?

Yes. Make sure it's a JPEG which you do by making sure the image is merged or flattened (as if it's imported then it can have 2 layers!) When you ask to save it as a JPEG it asks on the quality. Given the size and that it's for the web, you can probably get away with lower quality (highest is 12) which reduces your KB too.
Huh, me giving photoshop advice!
Ironic, given the ropeyness of my own image!

Okay, I've done everything everyone has suggested- EXCEPT reducing the quality of the image. Now I will try that when I next work on it. Thank you sweet cheesecake!
