Default From lapdance to burlesque - moving forward

Hi everyone, im totally new to this site btw so bare with me
Im currently working in a lap dancing club in Liverpool to support myself through uni. However, the other day a local club manager that regualrly comes in has offered me a slot doing burlesque in a monthly themed night - naturally i've jump at the opportunity. I've always incorporated a sparkle of old school hollywood glamour into my outfits and makeup when dancing, so this seems to be a natural progression. But... im not enitirly sure what to do with myself now: lessons, a routine etc. I need to get sorted but in not sure where to begin. Has anyone got any advice or tips for a beginner? Seriously, anything tha consitutes help will be greatly appreciated!!

Hi and welcome to the site.

Don't know where abouts in the country you are based but most girls on here have found burlesque lessons just by typing it into Google.

Best of luck with the transition.

The ladies on here are very helpful and I'm sure will provide better info than me.

Silver.

Replace the strip with humour.

Burlesque means 'to parody' or to 'make a mockery of'. Stripping and Burlesque are poles apart in my opinion. No pun intended.

Burlesque is a form of theatre that came out of Music Hall which focused on sketches or 'skits', prop comedy and elaborate and farcical costume. It was designed to send up the exclusivity of the performing arts, the past times and occupations of aristocracy and make political and social commentary.

Any 'sexiness' should be incidental and any 'strip tease' should be contextually relevant to the piece for it to truly be a burlesque act.

Surely though Kittie ones interpretation of Burlesque and its many individual nooks and crannies is highly individual? While, historically anyway, Burlesque *may* be about parody and theatre, I dont think its healthy or positive to almost shun everyone into boxes with regards to their performance styles and/or subject matter. I have been told many times on these very forums that Burlesque is a business to alot of people, which I think is why most of the people who make a living from it do it in the way that the public is most familiar with - bump n grind striptease Burlesque.

I know theres a difference between the American and British interpretations, but I just dont see why the difference always needs to be pointed out in such a manner that makes one seem more relevent, important or skilled than the other.

At the end of the day, Burlesque is simply one word that describes a number of things. If we stick to one 'true' definition, we're risking shutting off a large section of new and interested performers who may just think we're a snooty bunch of pretentious titwitches.

Just my two cents...hope youre doing well besides!
