Default on the subject of pasties

Does anyone know how to make them, on a serious shoestring budget.
what magic tricks do you know on creating these lovely items?
Everyone wants money for their tips and I can't dish it out just now. and I don't want to go with electrical tape!
Thanks!

Mmm. . . on a limited budget. . ok i'm going with what you may have around the house.

Ok for starters, get some card and a compas, or something like a champagne glass and draw around it. Cut a line to (roughly) the center and fold one flap slightly over the other to make a peak, stick with glue. If you have any old material or an old t-shirt with sparkles. . . anything like that, or you could get sparkle paint and cover your 'peak' (and thats not prison slang!) then take some tassels off your mommas curtains and sew to the middle. Or get a beer mat or something similar and wrap yarn, thread or anything stringy around the mat a few times. . . um i'm not good at explaining things. . look here, then sew the tassel to the center.

Thats the really basic-homemade version. . . The other way I do it is. . follow the whole thing. . make the peak . . yadda yadda . . then get a string of sequins which are really cheap and just glue the string on the card. Click!

Well thanks. That's helpful, I'll try again!
I have all sorts of crafty stuff around the house so that is not the issue!
I am having a hard time with this one. Usually I can make pretty much anything. I have been using cereal box- board but it is too thick. Also my breast gets sucked into the damn things! do you put a backing on it to make it easier to glue?

Hi Miss LillyBee
I use cross-stich material (you know the white stuff with little square holes in it?) for the base of mine. I always line the back with a piece of soft material - it looks better and makes them a bit more comfy. The first few pairs I made I actually did just with stuff I had around the house - my mum used to make stage costumes so she had various odds and ends of fabric which I pinched, then just trimmed the outside with sequins. If you make them competely with sequins, its obviously a bit more expensive. For the actual tassel, I make my own, I buy this fringey stuff which I pull apart to get the thread (its mega cheap - £1.20 a metre, which makes about 5 pairs). As for actually making them, I cut out the base and front and back first, glue them together flat and let them dry. Then I cut a line halfway across the shape to the centre, pop the tassel in here and fold it round into a slightly conical shape. Add trim / sequins after. Have a look at my slideshow on my myspace for an idea of how they look and good luck!

I sell a photo-illustrated ebook which includes three pastie patterns (circle, heart, star) on ebay for 5.95 US, plus directions on how to make custom shapes, what materials and trims people use, etc., and the rest of the guide is about 17,000 words long--and it'll be twice as long when I do the extended edition (in response to suggestions and requests from people who've used the book) in 2007. That's frickin CHEAP LOL Sewing patterns aren't that cheap.

Performing in burlesque is not notorious for being an inexpensive undertaking, that's for sure. It doesn't get cheaper as you go along.

That is just fabulous everyone. The ones I made look fabulous, and will only get better from here! Thanks for the tip on the lining! I'll get a photo up sometime after the holidays are over (when I actually have the time)!
