I was lucky enough to attend the show due to a nice favour from some close friends. They brought tickets for my wife and I in advance when I was broke and I paid them back on the night (thanks to Metal Monster and Pipi Strella - you know who you are).
This was my first experience of a Live Burlesque performance. I was not disappointed.
-Imelda May is the epitome of pure talent, and the cat woman suit was one of the outfits that made my evening.
-Flexi Lexi had me initially roaring with laughter as she mimicked the opening sequence of "Tales of the Unexpected" with an orange sheet to recreate the flames before she bent herself in ways I can only imagine.
-Layla Rose performed an enjoyable Belly Dance, shaking all the right bits before playing with John the Baptists head (lucky John).
-The Candied Heels are a fun bunch who had me roaring with their onstage transformation, while charming me with their offstage audience interaction.
-Missy Malone looked fantastic as the Bride of Frankenstein. I also noticed that she a fantastic facial profile, and she used her face to great affect during the performance. Her second performance was a quite naughty witch routine which then transformed into a beautiful fan dance.
--Pete Firman had the audience, and especially my wife, rocking with laughter. His tricks were suitably offbeat while his communication with the audience carried me along. I'm not sure what he'll do when the smoking in clubs ban comes around, but considering my wife swears blind she saw him dashing to the back looking a little pale, perhaps his days of swallowing ciggies might be better behind him in the end. As for those Y-Fronts. now I know why I don't wear them. I even dared my wife to shout "Refund". But seriously, the guy is a talent that suited the night perfectly.
-Red Sarah stunned me with her fan dance. I especially enjoyed the blood spattered look, but then I enjoy movies like Saw 3 (shameless plug). Her second act actually brought tears to my eyes, with flaming pastie tassels. I may be male but I could easily imagine the pain of a burnt nipple! I admire fire acts, they just look so dangerous. Oh, and I also like the sight of women with red hair (one of the reasons why I married my red headed wife), so definitely my favorite performer of the night.
-Finally Al and the Pallookaville Burlesque Orchestra added those final touches that I feel are vital to a good night out. An excellent person to announce each act who also kept the audience entertained while performers got ready. The band carried off each tune with ease and yet also added to the humour when they played a familiar tune. Somehow I had thios vision of a big block of cheese hanging from the ceiling. I guess I'm saying cheesy but in a fun and entertaining way that carries you along.
Will I go back to see the Candybox Burlesque when they next appear in Brum. You bet. And I'd also love to see my wife, Angel LaVey, one day perform for them (second shameless plug). The only problem I have now is that I feel like a Luvvie or member of the brown nose society

- please pass the bleach.
