It's said friends shouldn't discuss religion or politics but as the two are kind of intertwining at the moment what the hell.

I missed the channel four debate being at work last night ( dam the actors )

But it's got me thinking on the lines of freedom of speech.

within the last 28 months the incite to race hatred bill was passed which meant anyone.
Be they muslim, jewish, or b.n.p leader could be banged up for stirring hatred against another race, ( fair enough )
but the bill doesn't cover hatred towards religion just race.

The debate last night focused muslims and whether people should serve time for (appartently) stirring racial hatred towards that religion.
( think jack straws comments on viels )

This to be honest scares the shit out of me.
I don't believe in god, or any god(s) for that matter. I follow the Python / Bill and Ted ethics to life.-

And i think racism is global as every ethnicity holds a stigma to people from other countries.
japanese are business moguls, welsh shag sheep, french smell or garlic ,,,, and on and on.

Ben Elton and other writers are against passing a new law on religious discrimination and i think there right.

We live in a nation where were able to satirise everything and everyone be it the queen of england or jesus.
As quoted in Dogma even god has a sense of humor.

Two of my best mates are Irish, Gay, and of Catholic heritage and they run a pub.

And they are a target for humour.
As am i.
Being a big titted hotpot hoar.

This religious discrimination act is quite scary.

I would be the first to march on london if this bill was to start it's motion.

South Park and Family guy banned.
No new theatrical writing.
Avenue Q taken of the west end.
East is East never being performed.
Being arrested for being a stripping vica !

I don't know what kind of a response this post will get.
And i know it's a bit serious rant from me.

I'd just ask people to be vidual and look in the papers and around there local community and the arts community.

This nanny state thing is going to far.
Our local am dram society was asked to take it's posters down for allo allo because it features a cartoon hitler and was deemed to be offensive.
To who ?

Yes, it's all very grim.

Here's the key difference as I figure it:

Race is something you are, something you're born into, and thus powerless to change.

Religion is a concious choice, to adopt a set of rules for living and therefore something that you should be prepared to argue.

Satire is ESSENTIAL for a free society. Censorship is the domain of those who are as powerful as they are scared and as evil as they are moronic. So there.

I just wish I wasn't on the same side as bloody Ben Elton.
