Default What is your favourite film with a Burleque theme?

I love pirate films in particular - or maybe it's Johnny Depp that did that for me!

What do you think?

I too love the pirates, but also liked the classic ladies films, such as some like it hot and gilda. Studied them at uni, and the way the camera captures Marilyn and Rita just makes them look uber sexy.

It was nice to spot Rubu Rouge's wares in the pics!

Films. Cabaret is a classic and the last 40 minutes of Gypsy is great.

Naturally, the first Burlesque flick that caught my full attention was Klaw's Teaserama.

Some of the olde R & H classics like South Pacific are great too for costume, choreography and such.

I rather enjoy Ziegfeld Follies actually. I guess that means Im old fashioned. Im not into all these modern films much.

If you want to know about books Im reading G String Murders by Gypsy Rose Lee at the moment. The book was printed in 1941 and its falling apart but I still love it. X

It's gotta be Gypsy -with Rosliand Russell & Natalie Wood! Then there's Funny Girl with Babs Striesand, Moulin Rouge - yeah, that's right! Oh, let's not forget Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell. Those are the top 4!''

In addition to the obvious classic burlesque movies, many films feature musical sequences with performers doing their burly routines or parody what was popular at the time.

I used to love seeing the "Road" movies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby as they often featured stage acts to pad out the thin storylines. The old Abbott & Costello movies did much the same sort of thing with the Andrew Sisters appearing in a few.

One of my favourite movies is "Damn Yankees", the scene where Gwen Verdon repeats her showstopping Broadway dance number "Whatever Lola Wants" is fab.

For total kitsch appeal, the tassle twirling antics of Elvira in "Mistress of the Dark" is quite something too.

How about alien burly performers? Take a look at Susan Oliver's sultry dance as a green skinned Orion slave woman in the original pilot episode of Star Trek. That was a wow moment for me.

Also worth a look, (my minds gone in the direction of people painted weird colours) Vampire Circus by Hammer Horror, theres a scene with a woman dancing wearing nothing but tiger stripes painted on her body.and a kindof modesty thing stuck to her lady bits
But its pretty good, not exactly a burlesque classic but an obscure moment thats worth a gander.
